Hi

I am experiencing a collapse of the driver seat cushion on the right-hand side. (I am in a right-hand drive vehicle).

I suspect this is because of me sliding out the seat whenever I exit. I have been trying to support my weight, but I still seem to have a collapsed.

This is affecting my comfort whilst driving.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Regards, Carl

I know that from my Defender seats (but it took years to fail). I used a trick to compensate that: When I installed a new cushion I used an old T-Shirt and spray adhesive to support the cushion under the cover. I wrapped the old T-Shirt tight around the cushion and fixed it with the glue. Works for decades and I guess I'll inherit it...

This could explain why my seat has NO lumbar support... maybe it collapsed too. To be honest, never ever had a seat cushion fail or falter in any vehicle I have owned (that's 10+ cars).

It not on the back section, it is the raised section on the bottom cushion.

I am on 17000km. A pic won't show it as when the seat is not under weight the sponge keeps it form. You have to feel it.
I should add I am 120 kg so probably not helping...
All that potjeikos!

I raised this issue with our service agent shortly after getting the car. The seat "collapsed" very quickly, in my opinion. I believe it is a fault and wanted to note it so it will (eventually) be replaced under warranty. (he says, with tongue in cheek as I don't think it will be replaced under warranty)

@Rok_Dr had an issue with his seat sinking. He resolved it without parts or warranty. This may be a different issue but hopefully he'll see this post and jump in.

In my case, the driver’s seat slowly subsided to the bottom elevation setting over a couple of hundred kilometres. After a lot of investigation and testing involving the dealer it was traced to how I exited the car. What I was doing was sliding out of the seat with a controlled crash to the ground. In doing so I kept brushing the seat lifting lever with my bum and knocking it down slightly. For me the fix was to remove the plastic cover from the lifting lever which made it far less prominent.

I’m slowly relearning my exit strategy and once it’s second nature I may refit the plastic handle.

Now back to my morning coffee😊😊

My BMWs and my Land Rover have done the same over the years. Seems inherent in some high lateral bum support style seats. Might be related to having a fat arse?

I’m also a person of size and this has happened to every car I’ve ever owned even sedans. I’m primarily interested in knowing how easy it is to replace the bottom stuffing, especially on the heated seat model and with leather.

The heated bit is just the centre. The lateral supports are just stitched on to the middle. Fairly easy to get restuffed or replaced. Some brands do a seat replacement as a purchaseable part even which makes it easier. I’m pretty sure bmw were one of those brands. Would be worth asking the parts guys at Ineos if they will sell seperate individual seat cushions /components.
