General Coolant hose protection from chafing

Looks familiar.

is this a Petrol variant issue ? Or have we noticed it on Diesels also ?

Did anyone measure the hose ID or barb OD? I’m gonna order a couple brass double barbs.
I didn't measure. I had the original part in my hand, so I just took that to the auto parts store with me.
Strangely, the other half of the fitting looked perfect. Like new. Not weak at all.

I'd measure the one that broke, but I'm almost certain I tossed it. I'll have a root-around to make sure.

Now that I think about it, I put it back as I found it before I took it in so that they would cover it under warranty.

I’m sure there are other similar fittings/connectors peppered around the cooling system. Curious if failures like this at various points in the cooling circuit could be creating flow and obstruction (air pockets) problems and be a contributing factor to some of the uneven heating issues through the HVAC system?

Well, in my case; my heater worked great before the failure, even in auto. Now that they've put new fittings in it, I get no heat in auto.
Correlation or causation???...

Maybe they monkeyed with the software too while it was in.
In auto with the heat 1 click below max (88f?) I get heat out of the rear vents, just a little cold air out of the center vents, and no air at all out of the floor vents.
And yes, I've run the coolant purge procedure multiple times.

Perhaps the connector was roughly handled during installation. Push/ wiggle can crack these plastic connectors.

When someone finds a metal replacement for the double ended barb fitting, or better yet 2 single barb fittings with m&f threaded ends that we can screw together (I assume there’s a reason to have that be a spit hose) please post the link. Thanks in advance.

Are they also working on a spares kit for various hose connectors? So we can do in field repairs.
Not that I know of yet. I’m in the process of working with them for the tanks. My enquiry was the impetus to kick off the work.

Would love to discuss a field repair kit however. Which fittings are you thinking?

It would be good if they can at least tell you what connectors would be useful to buy as spares - and post it here.

I concur, I can ask. Not sure if they'll have that info off the cuff.

Note: my Grenadier is a petrol model Gen 2 B58 (US Spec, LHD), some things will still apply to the diesel (B57) versions and RHD trucks.

What I've been doing independently is scrubbing BMW and Toyota GR Supra (A90) youtube and forum references for many of the common issues they experience and replace over the higher mileage examples of BMWs with the Gen 2 B58 (TU) engines. This has been quite fruitful, and reveals issues with oil filter housing, plastic coolant fittings on the block/head, etc.

I've got a couple lists compiled and some of the replacements available in the US (plastic to aluminum, etc.). Can compile this over time. RokDr's manual supplement is a good starting point for research as well.

Note that the Grenadier does have some unique part numbers (i.e. the coolant header/expansion tanks), but much of it is shared with BMW G## and X## series vehicles + the late gen Z4 and Supra (A90).

For instance on a BMW plastic to aluminum OEM/Genuine part swap: I'm about to do a transmission fluid service on my Grenadier and I'm going to be replacing the plastic pan/filter combo with an OEM aluminum deep fin sump from a BMW X5M or the M3/M4 sump (same ZF flange pattern) and provided everything fits into the crossmember, I'll post an update for a pan that will replace the plastic ZF (service going forward with a metal pan is fluid, pan gasket, bolts, drain plug, and filter).

Thanks we do need someone trying to find a solution for this. It is appreciated.

A must have spares kit if going remote.
