General Check engine light - fuel level sensor P0461

I once read that keeping the ignition switch “ON” (with engine stopped) during refueling will avoid a timing issue that can trigger the CEL. Is this an actual “operational fix” (I have never had a CEL, whether fueling with ignition on or off)?

I haven’t had the code pop up in a long while. Was hopeful that it wouldn’t come back but it did filling up this morning. I have an ultra gauge that I ran with my old Disco 2 and travel with as part of my tool kit. . Reads codes and clears them too.

My ODB2 scanner has worked previously but I'm now I'm sitting with another Fuel Level Control fault that I'm unable to clear for 3 weeks now.

14 hour trip coming up and I'm desperate to get it cleared beforehand.

Got the CEL and same code on my 5k mile grenadier yesterday. It disabthe cruise control. Used an old Foxwell OBD reader to clear the codes and all is back to normal. Annoying.

After my last fill up I noticed the engine light on! This is the first engine light I have had with 8k on the odometer. I used my scan gauge to check the code P0461, my gauge said it cleared but the engine light is still on and now I have the orange triangle with the exclamation mark on! The scan gauge will not clear the code and it just comes back or really never goes away. My Dealer is more than 4 hours away. Maybe my scan gauge is not working properly or something is really wrong. Any thoughts?

I think I may have had to separately clear both the permanent code and the pending code, but once I did, the error light went away.
