I think I have the same problem, metro Melbourne is the epicenter of car theft in Australia: over 10,000 claims in the last FY.

I’m in the renewal cycle, lowest quote so far for me is from GIO for around $1450 (excess at $2500).

LOL, ran my details through GIO and got $3576 at $2300 excess!

My renewal with suncorp was $2,136 for $105,800. "New for Old" replacement in case of total write off, unlimited hire car, $1300 excess, windscreen and other glass replacement ...

Premium for full comprehensive $1303, agreed value $135,300 and a $1000 excess.

No driver age restrictions but the policy has the usual age related excesses.

Major cities pay much higher premiums than other locations. Even higher in the crime capital of Australia, Melbourne.

I followed the prompts and got a quote. Now my (brave) assumption was the promo quote would be sharp, or at least no worse than a retail quote. The promotion includes a $150 gift voucher if a policy is purchased so there is that value also.
Call me cautious, but after I got the quote I did another quote via the Club4x4 home page, i.e. no promotion.

You're reading that right. The promo price is $66.88 more expensive than the non-promo price. Include the $150 gift card value and it is a net 'saving' of $83.14 but as an existing customer I would not expect to pay more to hand over my business.

Since this is an Australian insurance thread; I'm currently paying $1529.60 annual for $113,000 agreed value with an $1150 excess at Shannons. Club4x4 will only allow me to insure my MY23 for $108,620 without calling them.
I was an early reservation holder so my station wagon driveaway price in July 2023 was $112,402 with rough and smooth packs and a bunch of options and dealer-fit accessories included.
