Weird huh.
I recently switched insurance providers for my wife's car. The policy was in my name because I take care of all our car stuff but we are both listed as regular drivers. I was primary driver, wife was additional driver. When the annual renewal arrived I took the opportunity to swap that around because it's her car and she drives it the most. They made the change them sent me a revised renewal with a $187.00 higher premium to have her as primary and me as additional. Age, driving experience and claim history are not factors here. When I challenged the increase the insurance company tried to explain that premiums are based on many things other than gender like where the car is parked overnight (we share a double garage), the address (in the same house), the cost of repairs (it's the same car), etc. The stats in Australia are that men have more insurance claims than women due to doing more driving. Young men display more risky behaviours that puts them into accidents. The insurance gender gap is typically men pay more than women based on risk profile. Not in this case.
So they have lost my business, including two other policies. Gender based bullshit.
