I did one of the Red Noland dealer mountain drives and Tom went over the underside when we were back in the service bay. The Grenadier has a lot of heat shielding on the underside. I just kind of noted it and didn’t even think to ask ‘why’, but - why? Why so much around the gas tank and in general? For hot climates where there would be a lot of radiated heat from the ground? What does it prevent? Or does it keep heat in during cold weather to help keep things fluid and moving?
Thread 'Eibach 2.5 Lift Kit w/ 34x10.5x17” BFG KO2 Installed!'
I finally installed the new, one-size-fits-all, Eibach 2.5 spring kit and 34x10.5x17 BFG KO2’s. The change in ride height is substantial. The front end level is very noticeable (with winch). While I only have 40 -50 miles under my belt, I believe the ride is slightly improved. Strangely, the cabin noise level also seems lower. But I don’t have an explanation as to why. I decided against 35’s as I watched YouTuber Ronny Dahl show his 35’s rubbing against the wheel well at full...
I've got the 30 mm Eibach spring kit and will be installing it soon but I want to get my ducks in a row first. I'm looking at adding in coil air suspension/bags to help level things off when towing - makes things much safer being level. Not looking for anything automatic/requiring electronics. Just a simple air value. Has anyone done this?
Hey Guys, I am getting a constant droning sound and very tiny steering wheel vibration at 100kph. It goes away outside of this speed. This has occurred only after installing the 40mm Eibach lift springs. Anyone else experienced this? Possible cause and fix? Tia Cheers
Thread 'CHF oil reservoir cap'
I noticed that there is an opening in the CHF oil reservoir cap, and those green/blue fluid could leak out or are forced out and leave some traces outside. Does anyone know what that opening is for? is it normal to see some trace of power steering fluid outside of the cap?
There is a video on YouTube of a Grenadier with the pro-lift coils installed. The technician explains that the maximum Amount of caster that could be set was 1 degree. Has this been the experience with others who have installed these coils and how does this affect the handling/steering?
If this video has already been linked somewhere in the forum, please let me know. If not: The guy says he improved his steering so he has a much better driving experience and has to make much less corrections when driving (on the road). I'm not an expert in this field, so I would like some opinions or clarifications: Is it worth trying his approach? View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiQ7E7a8Gds
I'm trying to decide between the 2.5" and 1.7" Eibach springs. Will be adding the 1.2" on the rear. I'm used to an even level on my trucks, but don't mind some rake, either. Be great to see some pics of your 1.7" rigs - it'd be great to also know what wheel & tire size combos you're running. Gracias!
Thread 'Centered steering wheel when going straight?'
My steering wheel is off center when driving in a straight line. Is this an easy fix? I took these twp picture of it, it's about where these pics show the wheel to be when going straight. It's not super awful but I find it annoying.
My mechanic is asking for the torque specs, front and rear for parts that were removed for the Pro-Lift spring installation. This includes front and rear: Brake calliper support bolts Lower shock bolt Tie rods Would appreciate any help! Thanks
I’ve seen a couple of threads about modifying the bolt stop to reduce the turning radius. It seems some of them are a couple of years old. I found a recent one on Facebook group and he says he has used it for some time. View: https://www.facebook.com/jbrindell/videos/1028393128694228/?idorvanity=646932539965726 Anyone done the mod and got some miles on it? Any official word on it? Kind of reminds me of the caster mod. Why would Ineos hobble the IG with the turning radius if it were...
Curious if anyone else has experienced a metallic clattering/knocking noise with the rear stock yellow Eibach springs under light load? It appears the tighter wound coils at the top of the spring have a couple of millimeters space between them under light load. I’ve noticed on course aggregate roads I get a resonance/metallic chatter coming from the right rear. I confirmed the noise by getting underneath and giving the spring a few thumps by hand at normal ride height and you can see the...
Hi, does anyone have the procedure for removing the rear springs? Maybe the tightening torques of the shock absorber on the axle and some photos of the rubber anti-vibration between the spring and the frame. Thanks
Thread 'Fox Performance Suspension Kit Initial Impressions'
I recently got the chance to test out the newly developed Solve Offroad suspension kit on my Grenadier. This kit uses the Fox 2.0 Performance Series shocks paired with Eibach 35mm Pro springs. Here’s how things went after a weekend of towing my nearly 2-ton camper and doing some light off-roading with the new setup and 34-inch mud terrain tyres. On-Road Performance: For the on-road portion, we took the Putty Rd which connects Windsor and Singleton north of Sydney, Australia. If you’re not...
Thread 'Loose tierod? Stabilizer install fail…'
Just had lift installed, front stabilizer and alignment from a reputable off road shop in my area, picked it up Friday. It drives way worse than it did factory, some darting and lots of wandering. So looking underneath I see issues with the stabilizer install and I can rotate the trackbar by hand. How much movement should the trackbar have, rotationally? Video attached. They installed the fox adj stabilizer incorrectiy and either didn’t use the mounting block that’s supposed to be...
Anyone know the exact dimensions of the front coil springs and what the top spring perch and spring pad isolator looks like? I am trying to find an existing 1" spacer that might work or may go see if I can have my local offroad fabricator make a billet spacer. I am trying to get a little height in front back from weight that has been added and remove some of the 2" rake. Don't really want to mess with the Eibach springs as vehicle already barely fits in parking garage.
Hey All - Just over 2K miles and been daily driving it with a very relaxed drive most days. Today was no different but then I went out later in the evening and the car suddenly started making a popping noise around the lower part of the steering column whenever I turn the wheel left or right. It doesn’t have to be at full lock, and sometimes changes when the pops happen (not at the same point every time). I’ll get one, sometimes two or three little “pops”. No difference in steering or...
So I’ve had my grenadier for 9 months now. I’ve done about 200-300 miles off-road. Here in Florida we have a lot of sand tracks through the national forest that often undulate giving you a bit of a roller coaster ride of up/down motion along the tracks when Sunni g at say 20mph. When going in a straight line, over these humps and into dips, when the front axle springs compress (uniformly) I get a distinct “clunk” or “thunk” sound. Not metal on metal, and there is no hard bottoming out...
Thread 'Suspension upgrade: 50 mm lift & Fournales Suspension' Oleopneumatic dampers... Verdict after 26 000 km (20% off-road) EN/FR'
-- English I did contact a dozen of companies in various countries for springs, dampers, air suspension... Based on my specifications my choice went to a French company called "Fournales Suspension". I don't have a single regreat except making my Fournales' dampers upgrade choice earlier. At least now I can compare both since I've done half of my kilometers with the stock dampers & half with the Fournales'. I could write for hours about those dampers just to talk about the benefits of the...
I’ve noticed the steering wheel on center free-play seems to be increasing a bit as things break in. Curious if others have noticed the same as the dead spot before you feel any resistance in the steering while turning it slightly left or right off center seems to be growing (about a half inch of free movement either side of center for about an inch or so overall measuring front top center strip of the steering wheel. It certainly didn’t feel this way when I picked the vehicle up new...
