Hi All,

just turned on the ignition to find the wipers and head lights are on despite being turned off. Unable to turn them off no matter what i try. Indicators and windscreen wiper fluid are not working either. A string of other warnings (ESC not working, TSA not working, Reduced braking performance, Uphill assist not working, Down hill assist not available) are also lightning up.

Does anyone know what the hell is going on and how this can be fixed for the time being, as its the weekend and the dealer isn't open?

Before you do much else, make sure the battery is fully charged, either by charging it or using a proper meter. (Don't rely on the Grenadier dash readout).

If you are lucky, low voltage is upsetting the electronics. Then try the battery connections and the earth connections around the truck. If they are loose, you can get some weird effects. If you are unlucky, it will need a module change.

I have had this fault they replace the indicator/wiper stalks if you’re in a bind you can remove the wiper fuse to drive it back home.

Yes it is indeed most probably a hardware failure, and the module should be replaced: I had that problem before delivery of my car.

Thanks for the replies.

Had ineos roadside assist look at it and they tried disconnecting the battery for 10min without success. Flatbed booked to tow it back to the dealership. I'll try fully charging the battery if i can get my hand on a charger

I assume this was resolved @etbandit. What was done to fix it?
I turned the ignition on today and I have the same fault.

I have had that it needs a new steering module which indicator stalks. Known problem to dealers way fix for them.

I had this twice. Let the car go in "sleep mode" and lock it. After a few minutes it worked again.

Thanks. I put it on a charger for 12 hours overnight and it still had the fault this morning. Unless the charger stopped the vehicle from sleeping it looks like a repair is required.

I have had this last week as well. They had to change the whole unit in the steering column. Afterwards all fine again. Exact same issues as you described.

A follow up to my post above.
I presented my vehicle to my agent with these symptoms:
  • Key on = wipers and headlights on (both selected off)
  • Both control stalks unresponsive
  • ESC not available
  • HDC not available
  • TSA not available
  • Reduced Braking Performance
  • Downhill Assist not available
  • Uphill Assist not available
  • Power Steering error
  • General Warning (triangle) on the Telltale panel
My agent raised a tech case with IA who advised to replace the Steering Column Module (SCM). This has corrected the fault.

I have exactly the same occurrence out of the blue. It happened yesterday. Dealer says new SCM should fix - just trying to get a spot in their schedule for the fix. It’s not good enough to me… it’s obviously a warranty issue and vehicle is useless without it, but you’ve got to wait to get it rectified?????? Sometimes I think it was a mistake getting rid of the old, reliable, easy fix (if necessary), Defender.

Aahh 💩. Based on the early fail rates it's fair to assume there is a latent defect in these modules. Hopefully IA have a quality claim back on their supplier. The SCM should be regarded as durable goods with a long service life.
If there's a positive to this @Bobby Mac yours also failed during the warranty period. I'm hoping that IA and the OEM have improved the replacement SCM so it doesn't fail outside of warranty.

@Clark Kent ...did the dealer mention as to whether they needed to use their diagnostic device to reset following the R/R of the SCM.
Is it a big job or a "plug n play" (assuming the battery is properly disconnected)

I'm wondering whether it's a DIY R/R repair one might be able to undertake if the replacement had to be sent to an out-of-the-way place where the vehicle was stranded...

Even the prospect of navigating urban areas without indicators to get to the dealer is fraught given eagle eyed constabulary looking for excuses! Essentially the vehicle is un-roadworthy ... does this mean a flatbed?
So many questions....🤔😉
