What did you do with your Grenadier today?

Finally finished the GMRS install. I cut into the plastic and mounted adapter for my Midland 275 mic. When I'm not using the radio, the mic goes in my Tougher front seat pocket. When in use, I attached my mic to a set up I got from Amazon. The color match is almost spot on and cost less than 15 dollars.

This thread always confuses me - "what did you do with" vs. "what did you do to". Anyway couple projects over the past week or so.

First was, I got tired of the seatbelt coming across my neck, yeah, I'm somewhat vertically challenged. Anyway, saw this over on FB, so took a chance.
Front Seatbelt holder for 2015-2023 Ford Mustang

Easy install, sold as a pair. The holes are a bit wider than our headrests, but they fit with a little squeezing or you could dremel out one of the holes a bit. .

Next was to FINALLY install a LensunSolar panel on my hood. Took nearly a month for all the bits and pieces to arrive. I didn't go with their MPPT controller, but installed a CTEK 250SE using at GP Factor bracket. Still need to finalize the wiring, but got the panel mounted. Getting wires through the firewall was a B*#ch. Seems they taped the wires to the grommets on the engine side, so couldn't just "poke" the wires through.

Here are the specs of the solar panel - nothing crazy, but I don't have the roof space to put panels and the hood is wasted space anyway.

My Leitner roof rack came in handy when I had to take (5) 33+” wheels/tires back from the tire shop. Three in back and two on the roof. I switched from 18’s with snow rated Yokohama AT4’s to 17’s with RT Yokohama X-AT’s.

Who did your hood blackout (the spot under the now-installed solar panel)?

Looks as though your seat belt holder would fit better the other way up?

Did you do a clean and jerk weight lifting move with one in each hand to get them up there 🤔😂

The real challenge was me being 5’9”. Really nothing too difficult, mostly awkward. I weight train with some regularity so this wasn’t too bad. I only had to get the tire up against the rack and then it was just sliding them up into place.

I can get tyres up there easily but 64 next month and 5’6” I can’t get a 40kg BFG tyre on a steel rim up there , so have to use ingenuity. I can just get the tyre and rim onto the rear door carrier but having had a shoulder replacement it’s getting harder. To get the spare onto the roof I fix and hang my hilift over the back of the roof rack then use a small pulley block to hoist onto top of other spare ,getting onto the roof rack is easy from there when on the roof. I’m still yet to consider how I carry a second spare now I have the Alucab lifting roof conversion. I may have to resort to just carrying the tyre.

You'd be unlikely to have that many non repairable punctures on a trip.
Lots of people carry two extra (heavy) wheels/tyres in Australia , but the word amongst the knowledgeable is that it's vanishly rare to need both.
Then again you might be that uber hardcore adventurer guy.
You might even need a 3rd spare ;)

I suppose tyres have improved these days. On a previous trip to Namibia in 2010 I had three punctures in a day, two in the side wall. The tyres were well worn when I did the trip as I was doing it on a real budget so probably contributed to the failures. I think modern BFG’s have tougher side walls.
This picture shows one of the tyres after I tried to get back on the bead using the Top Gear Method, only I didn’t have any lighter fuel and used a little too much petrol 😳😂😂
 
A couple of nice trips for me last month - a weekend in the Abercrombie River National Park (in NSW Australia) with my 4WD Club, and a week travelling to Lightning Ridge on a tag-along. Also a first for me - something that I've avoided for 2 years with my Grenadier - I finally needed to be recovered - after getting stuck in the mud. 🙂

Brilliant. Looked like great fun. I enjoyed watching that 👍🏼
 
I added the awesome rear door handle from our store. But I wasn’t happy with the lack of grip so I added a bit of rubber to make grabbing it easier (especially when wearing gloves). The strip was about 1”x4-1/4” (2.5cmx10.8cm).
