What did you do with your Grenadier today?

Went by KO in Framingham, MA a couple of weeks ago and fell gaga in love with their MM Quartermaster... especially with the 3/4 canvas installed, but as I have a station wagon, I had to 'settle' for the next best accessory: the GP Factor brush bar. Very pleased.

Changed the battery in the key fob. That’s the second time in 18 months, I’ve only done 11,000 miles and it gets used 2 or 3 times a week.

Anyone else noticed how quickly it eats batteries?
My battery has been in since the beginning. It's now 29 months old. About 3 months ago, I was told that the battery was low. I checked it with a multimeter and everything was fine. I then put it back in. There has been no message since then. I use the key fob on average twice a day.

Sounds like it is being activated when in your pocket, these buttons really are sensitive. Or you are using cheap Chinese 2032 batteries. I once bought a batch online that turned out to be Chinese replicas, ended up changing them almost weekly. Now only buy top branded batteries.

43,000 kms and 18 months later and still on the same battery.
I only ever use one key so no idea if the spare is still ok.

3D printed a UHF microphone holder that fits in the Grenadier's centre console. It uses two of the existing screw fittings to hold it in place. The holder uses the very strong magnet scavenged out of a GME Magnetic Microphone Mount. There are several similar setups circulating already, and I tried different designs before settling on a smaller round design instead of the production version rectangular mount. The round mount allows me to grasp the mic easily to lift it off the mount for use. The mount is angled slightly (10 degrees) so that I can glance down and read the screen.

Well they’re branded as Panasonic but I did buy them on Amazon 🤔😂

Think my vehicle was built June 23 so it’s actually 2 years old now, I didn’t get it until November and it had only done 139 miles when I bought it.

But, still, I had a transit for 5 years before my Ineos and never replaced a key fob battery.

Two years now: never changed the batteries, but ... I sometimes switch the keys. But I replaced none of them, and I have almost 60000 km. Reading your post, I think I should have a spare in the car.

I am travelling since some 10 days, first towards Hungary to visit my youngest son and wife and granddaughter, then slowly to Serbia, Croatia and I am now in Bosnia, second day at the same camping, today doing some cleaning, rearranging my luggage and … repairs.

In Croatia camping in the wild is completely forbidden, even sleeping in the car, but I did it anyway two nights ago, because I got stuck in a too deep old tractor track.
20250607_172158.jpg

Bottom of car was sitting on the higher part, and no traction of the wheels indeed, I even pumped up all of my tires to 3.5 bar to “lift it up a bit”, to no avail. So, two days ago I had to winch it forward to a place where I had traction, and yesterday morning I filled the track with a lot of pieces of dead wood to go backwards. Why backwards: because I did a walk in the evening to see if I could continue straight, but no way. Night was falling, and I slept in the car.
20250608_123750.jpg

Rewards: during my walk I saw a wild boar and its youngsters, I had a warm meal with a cold beer, the night was super quiet, and I was not alone: 1 million mosquitoes where wishing me a bloody welcome (but I have repellant).

Yesterday, about one hour after getting “unstuck” and while driving on normal roads my car computer fell out several times. Strange.

The repairs: The rubber flap behind the front left wheel was almost teared off and the front lowest grid under the front bumper was pushed out of its fixings.

You do have some great adventures. One day we’ll join you on an adventure in Eastern Europe. 👍🏼

Nice. Well done Jean 👍

That would be nice, and I would have been towed out by you immediately without loosing 24h.

But, to be honest, I love also the experience of having to find a solution myself, and I don't mind the lost time. I did everything in a relaxed way, believing I could do it, and if not, civilisation was not too far away to ask help from a tractor. But even relaxed, I was sweating like hell, because it was hot.

You were sweating but stayed cool 😎

Braved the DVLA, (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency), and insurance company app to change to my personal registration plate. Taking the screwdriver to the number plate screws is the easy bit.

One more step in making it mine. It's already got the recovery gear in the lockable box, the camping chairs and the emergency tools in the load bay. I'm going to have to thin the stuff out as the seats being moved back impacts the load bay more than I expected.

In 1 year and 10,000 kilometers I've gotten the low key fob battery message twice. I figured it was one of the trucks false alarms, and sure enough the message stopped quickly.

Still an annoying false alarm and one that'll no doubt be a boy that cried wolf situation one day, when it does go flat for real. Hopefully software sorts it out before then and the message become trustworthy.

Until that day, I'm running on a system of, "if it doesn't make sense, ignore it". Works for now, but every year that passes will make that riskier.
