Why is the Grenadier transfer box lever backwards i.e. pull back for LOW and push forward to engage HIGH have to watch that as Land Rovers are the other way round don't want to crunch it into LOW in the heat of battle.

I get the feeling that they wanted the IG to be like a D2 on the inside, but a Defender on the outside. Well, except for the transfer case.

I am really excited to see what details you can make themes out of

Why would you be changing it "In the heat of battle"?
The vehicle is always in 4wd high range, you are never in 2WD
From there you have only a few choices that will be made when the vehicle is stopped or at slow speed.
  • Stay in high range but lock the transfer case
    • Only done on a loose surface when you will be travelling reasonably fast
    • Off road mode probably selected first
  • Change to low range centre transfer case unlocked
    • Probably on a hard surface when towing a heavy load or pulling a boat up a ramp
  • Low range centre diff locked
    • Only done on a loose surface usually at slow speed
    • Tyres are probably aired down
    • Rear locker often also engaged at this time
    • Front locker may be engaged.
  • Selection of front or rear locker more likely to be done "in the heat of battle"

On a side note, I was actually wondering this earlier today. It may be out there but unbeknownst to me - do you think the IG was designed to be LHD and then “converted“ to RHD or the other way around? The UK and Australia are big RHD markets but all of mainland Europe, the Americas, etc are LHD.

Judging by the central binnacle and largely symmetrical dash I expect designed for both from day one.

Did anyone notice if the indicator stalk was on the right or left hand side? I believe right hand drive countries typically have it on the right whereas left hand drive have it on the left.

Most manufacturers aren't bothering to change the indicator anymore
My Mercedes and my wife's mini both have it on left hand side
Yesterday we drove the Suzuki Jimny that has it on the right hand side.
My wife hit the wipers first time and then not again and I ad it from first go.
We got back in the MB to drive home and I just went back to left hand.
As long as you can tie your shoes or walk and chew gum at the same time it won't take time to adjust

I agree - it won’t be hard to figure the directionals. what we be weird for me would be the placement of the ignition slot. Starting a vehicle with the key on the left would be really weird.

Yes. Maybe I will ahve to start carrying my keys in my left hand pocket instead of my right.
Then I will have to get them out with my left hand and voila

Has anyone noticed that the high low lever does not have a neutral position?
