Torque settings - various

When angle torque values are found a note "Renew bolt" should be added because these are tightened over the yield strength. Re-use will break or at least stretch the bolt and correct force on the joint will not be achieved.

I have decades used following general torque values for 8.8 bolts and 8 nuts if nothing else is available. Take care when use these.
  • M5 - 6 Nm (5-7 Nm)
  • M6 - 9 Nm (7-10 Nm)
  • M8 - 25 Nm (22-28 Nm)
  • M10 - 45 Nm (40-50 Nm)
  • M12 - 90 Nm (80-100 Nm)
  • M14 - 105 Nm (90-120 Nm)
  • M16 - 180 Nm (160-200 Nm)
  • UNC 1/4" - 9 Nm (6,8-9,5 Nm)
  • UNF 1/4" - 9 Nm (8,1-12 Nm)
  • UNC/UNF 5/16" - 24 Nm (20-27 Nm)
  • UNC/UNF 3/8" - 39 Nm (35-43 Nm)
  • UNC/UNF 7/16" - 78 Nm (68-88 Nm)
  • UNC/UNF 1/2" - 90 Nm (81-102 Nm)
  • UNC/UNF 5/8" - 136 Nm (122-149 Nm)

Does anyone know the Torque settings for the three threaded studs that bolt to the spare wheel mount on the rear door?

The mount itself to the rear door is 79Nm, the Spare tyre nuts are 70Nm and Locking Box to Mounting ring is 24Nm.

Thanks!

16Nm

M6 range – 8.4 Nm to 11.2 Nm
M8 range – 12 Nm to 16 Nm
M10 range – 14 Nm to 18 Nm

Both the 5 stud and 7 stud versions have a mixture of stud sizes, depending on the circuit rating. The higher the circuit rating the bigger the stud. You must work out the stud size and torque accordingly. The busbars can vary between models, so you need to look at each stud size before you torque them down.

*Commonly loosen/tighten with an Allen key or hex bit. #Commonly loosen/tighten with a socket, spanner or wrench.

Methodology: I take a selection of Torx and Torx Plus bits and work out which fits the best. When there is uncertainty, I look closely at the shape of the screw/bolt head.

General torque values (not INEOS specific) here.
