Supra Shifter installed

Hi there. Just done my UK RHD shifter swap today. Took 2 months to come from Toyota £275.00. Overall took 20 minutes including stripping the new one. The ribbon going through in the new one was a bit fiddly but a bent paperclip hook & patience soon sorted. Easy DIY job at home. Delicate on the ribbon. Thanks to Owl on YouTube. No looks like it should from the factory......Ineos..........

do you have the UK RHD part number by any chance?

Anyone have a lead on where to buy this? Tried several Toyota dealers and eBay listings and they all say it’s out of stock

As long as you know that most of the lights on those Supra shifters light up Amber color at night, I can send info. Mine looks awesome (day or night).

I bought one 2.5 weeks ago from a Toyota dealer in Canada (I am in the US). I worked with the parts department and they told me I got the last one from the Canadian warehouse (like all dealers, the order from the warehouse, then re-ship to the end customer from the dealer after it arrives). It arrived this week but I have been traveling. What was great was that it is $170 CAD plus about $25 shipping, so cheaper than the US.

The other source I found that has in stock is here:

This is some Supra modifier shop. I confirmed they had in stock and ready to ship. $285 plus I think $40 shipping.

Mine took 3 months, they’re on a national back order, when you place an order and they ask for a vin, cross check with a junker on eBay no vin no sale I believe.

And yes we’re working on a solution :)

Part Number 33550-WAA01

Part Name Gear Shift Assembly

Price $175.30

The dealership where I got ours said that Toyota waits until there's a certain number back ordered before any are made. Thats as much as they knew.

Definitely looks a more natural fit. I could be tempted.

Right. When I ordered mine (from a dealer in Canada, last one in the Canadian warehouse apparently) I gave them a Supra VIN off a car I found for sale locally.

I just ordered mine today from here, arriving in a week. There was a place to enter a VIN, but it was optional.

This does look great and much more in keeping with the character of the vehicle

On the topic of swapping out the gear shifter, does anyone know if the base of the Grenadier's shifter and the base of the Supra shifter have the same output? I may see about just swapping out the entire unit rather than hacking on and swapping the gear shifter portion itself. I'm concerned that the shifter itself has the same settings, but what the shifter innards sends to the transmission / computers etc. may differ between them.

I'm still trying to figure out why this is a thing. Why waste your time and money when the stock unit is perfectly fine and looks good. There's no performance boost. Color is the same. One has a square top edge and one has a slightly angled top edge? Big deal. Is everyone that influenced by John at Owl?

Looks matter. Why change wheels, or choose a particular color. Not every mod has to be about improved function or performance. Sometimes it is just about looking good. We all make these choices every day. Otherwise why not just buy your clothing at Good Will. You're covered up right?

Although not fully understanding of the objection to the current shifter, this is a vehicle designed for modification to the heart’s desire. It can be great fun individualising this vehicle, and I completely get that.
Have a good mind to do the mod’ myself, for no particular reason, but currently wary of getting it wrong, and the resultant costs that would be incurred.

The base itself is the same - but look carefully at the 2 units…. one has a square bezel trim at base the other is not square. So you can’t just drop in the entire new unit.

You can swap this small bezel trim from one base assembly to the other but requires you to remove the handle anyways. So there is no benefit in swapping the base as well. Plus it’s a ton more work to pull the console apart.

Totally agree. Same could be said for replacing the center console, hood/rear door latches, transfer case knob, etc…

@Jeffrey didn’t you say something to the effect, different reasons for different folks. One being aesthetics….when someone asked you about your rear bumper and why you replaced the OEM bumper? Who are we to criticize what someone else does with their truck?

The fun part is to be the enabler that gets people to buy the overpriced farkles that clearly have the Grenadier Tax added to every accessory😂😂 I know I’ve been bleeding money since picking up my order last year😂😂🤦🏻‍♂️ It might lead to a divorce but i’ll have a sweet truck to live out of🤪
