Hi All
Wondering if you guys could listen to the attached video and give me your thoughts
there is a quite heavy knock when my car is idling coming from around the starter motor sump area
it is a B 58 petrol apart from the noise which is quite concerning it is running perfectly
Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Is there anything dangling and touching the belts?

That sounds like the HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) clacking noise common to the B58 engine and other direct injected engines in general. I will say, compared to other direct injected vehicles I own the B58 fuel system is about the noisiest I’ve encountered and is not very refined sounding at all especially at idle and makes quite the racket.

Doing my last oil change while laying underneath the Grenadier as it warms up to check the oil level and for leaks mine sounds the same. The HPFP is at the top rear of the engine so all the noise it makes is going to be reflected down the firewall to the rear of the engine and make you think you’ve got a problem when you don’t. If anything in the bottom end of the engine was letting go you’d already know about it by this point. But if you are genuinely concerned have the dealer look at it.
