For those that changed the tire size in the tub, at what size did the sliding bracket no longer work. The notch is 2 inches long and I think a 33 should work without an adapter

I can't actually answer your question, but a 33" tire at the hub would only sit ~0.75" taller

I finally got my spare Wildpeak AT4 W 255/80R17 installed. I then threw it in the tub and sure enough it bolts to current location. I don't think anything taller will work. So I am going to make it official the largest tire to fit in the tub is a 33 without modification to the spare mount. Pictures are with the Wildpeak
