XPEL is being installed on all new Grenadiers by Red Noland in Colorado Springs before they are sold. They install it in their paint film shop using a heat gun. I took a test drive this weekend and noticed really thin scratches where the wipers wipe when glare hit the windshield. To be fair, I'm not sure if this was dirt on the windshield or tiny scratches, but it looked like the thin grooves on a vinyl record. They said there is a spray you have to use as a treatment, but they didn't have any information on how often to treat or how long the film lasts.
That's probably a good thing, but if they're directly passing the cost on to the consumer it best be a fair price. I got my xpel from a local detailer for HALF what the dealer wanted.

This has to be totally dependent on your driving conditions and your ability to create dirt-slurry on your windscreen. Plastic is not glass.

Xpel windshield protection $599 on the invoice.

And and additional ~$199 added to the $689 dealer handling fee (shown on the website) for a total of $888 (invoiced dealer fees) for some sort of security stickers on various body panels for security tracking.

Another crack in the windscreen yesterday - no sign of a stone chip and I don't recollect any stones flying up. Will be my fourth windscreen in two years. Prior to this I think I only replaced one windcreen on any primarily road going vehicle period. On a VW Passat that I stuck my head through the windscreen on 30 years ago.

Interestingly I spoke to my dealer who said get autoglass to sort it rather than us but request a Pilkington windscreen rather than OEM as they are half the price and probably better.

The OEM is a Pilkington so will be exactly the same but I guess maybe cheaper 🤷🏼‍♂️

Okay, had a blast in the snow this weekend with the Grenny. I was able to teach my son some important skills as he will take his driver's test soon....but now have a crack in my windshield. At first I thought it was due to my attempt to clear the ice blocks off my wiper blades during the snow storm (had my defrost running the entire time on the windshield but the build up of ice/snow was too much). As you can see from the attached photo there was clearly a stone impact closer to the lower edge of the windshield. With all of that said...I was the third caller to the local dealer this morning (parts and labor $4,200). My insurance will push me towards SafeLite (US Vendor) for $1200. I spoke with the local shop, they have never done work on an Ineos. The detailed quote is for the higher quality glass to permit the camera to do its thing but they are certain they will not be able to calibrate it. I will have to go to my local dealer and have that done, with a reimbursement from my insurance. I have a couple of concerns/questions and welcome any input that might put my mind at ease. I have insurance but they likely won't cover the dealer installed windshield. I am concerned as I read that a seal related to the drainage should be replaced with the windshield, SafeLite knew nothing about this. If it ties into the safari windows (some complaints of leaks have surfaced related to drainage) I'm concerned as mine have been working just fine. I don't want to find myself in a situation where the dealer won't be able to calibrate due to the quality of the glass and then down the road, I run into leaks that no one will own. It's a 2024 model that has been so much fun to drive....I just want to do the right thing. Suggestions? Advice? Thank you in advance!
