I am a copy-cat too, and I know @Clark Kent was not the first, and I apologize to the first poster of this solution, but I did the same today.

Did cost me about 50€, because I didn't find it in Europe and it came from the USA (transport costs + 21% VAT).
True, importing from the U.S. usually means higher costs due to shipping and the 21% VAT, so €50 sounds about right overall.

I hope the replacement screen includes underwear, as you are UK that hit is right in your face!
I would definitely have lost all control down there

For the final time, this is yet another public service announcement - especially for those that swap out windshields like diapers - so I don't come across as even more annoying than I already am for some of you.

If you plan on keeping your IG for a long time (yours truly), be mindful of the windshield install job. An incompetent so called tech may unknowingly nick the frame paint exposing metal. Over time, this exposed area will soon become a pernicious spot of rust often caught too late in the form of rust bubble by the rubber gasket.

I personally hate replacing the factory sealed glass, so I have had good luck using some type of windshield film protection over the past 15 years. This helps prevent issues like stone chip vs crack. This film is readily disposable and replaceable like a diaper.

Gl!
Yes, what you’re describing is a known phenomenon, though it’s not extremely common. Cracks that appear along the bottom edge of the windshield, especially following the wiper sweep pattern, are often caused by a combination of factors: stress from the windshield mounting, temperature changes, and the mechanical action of the wipers over tiny imperfections. Even without a stone chip, these stress points can propagate into a larger crack over time. Replacing the windshield is the right move. Some owners have reported similar “mystery” cracks, so you’re not alone. Regular inspection and prompt replacement help prevent safety hazards.
