Hi, new to this forum, and looking to pick some brains please!

I’m finalising the purchase of a 2023 Fieldmaster and looking for some advice please from fellow members out there on roof rack options. I’m looking for a full length roof rack solution that provides access to still use the safari windows, but I also want to mount a roller at the rear for ladders, and anything else (timber etc.) to make life easier and prevent damage to the bodywork and rack itself.

I have seen one online that is full length safari window compatible, but haven’t seen anyone specifically highlight the addition of an incorporated rear roller.

Any links, advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Graham

There are several possibilities. As an early adopter before alternatives came out I went with a Front Runner , but the 3/4 one. Added the roller ( very useful).
You can get the full rack and delete the front cross planks.
And just to add. Front Runner is gutter mounted but after 2 years of at times heavy/ fully loaded use there is no distortion/ cracking of the rails..
Other racks mount lower so if you are constrained by a garage...

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. If you were starting afresh, would you still go for what you fitted, or something different given various options out there now? Would you still go gutter mount again based on your comment, or rail attach? Garage height not an issue, so not overly fussed on rack height, more interested in practicality of access as required between roof and rack.

The FR rack is a bit wider than some, which is useful space. To access I stand on the rear tyre or sometimes a tyre step . To access the front I use door latch steps
I can still access the roof rails and tie stuff to them.
Oh and I haven't really thought about other options now available. Some are quite expensive. Front Runner have a good reputation and there are plenty of accessories if required.

Whatever you do, do not buy one that has any bars in front of the safari windows. e.g. cut outs. When we first got ours, the roof rail was put in front of the safari window and the noise was horrendous. Even at 30mph it sounded like a turbine was above us. The rails were moved back and its much improved although I do intend to move the rail back a bit more.

So, if you need a full rack rather than rails, then go with one that stops before the windows rather than one with cut outs to allow the windows to open.

I am happy with this one, no gutter mount at the most loaded parts. 2000 € including freights. https://www.qualan.eu/

Marek is a tough guy and a maker. On his homepage he has only a gutter mount RR - but I ask him for a backbone solution and he answerd with a 3d drawing and askes for some measurements... 4 weeks later I got the rack galvanized and powder coatet in any RAL color.

The African Outback I had on my lc100, Has an unboltable flip up trap door that you could cover the skylight if needed to carry a load, flip it open for temp use of the sky light, or just remove it. It would be nice if someone made that. I think African Outback is defunct. I'm not sure of the point of a roof rack with 2 big permanent holes in it, besides lots of wind noise. I'd just get a 3/4 rino rack and keep a rino rack load bar handy if something long needed some forward support.

I thought this a very smart looking rack as it hugs the roof close, maintains the Grenadier slope line, and works with the safari windows. Not sure about availability in your area as it is an Austrian product.
