Ronny Dahl Bought a Quartermaster

Is this how all threads are going to play out now? Another opportunity to bring up the driveshaft issue. It's a pretty sad state of affairs when the discussion on Ronny's 28 minute washup of his trip, mods, canopy setup, etc. quickly centres on a 30 second reference to the driveshaft.
Ronny would have been howled down if he didn't mention it. He took a spare as insurance because he was far from civilization in rugged off-road conditions. If he didn't acknowledge it he would been accused of sponsorship and cover up. No winners there.

I get there is some anxiety about the driveshaft, and some (few) have been genuinely affected by a failure. I also get that threads regularly go off-topic and I'm guilty of doing that myself. The driveshaft issue is at peak fixation but perhaps we could keep the discussion in those several threads about the driveshaft and CV rather than every thread quickly getting sidetracked by it.

Please.
Fair point

Does anyone know how much one costs?
I was thinking a few of us who do remote trips could chip in to buy one, and swap it from boot to boot on the outback tour roulette wheel until someone has to actually use it. 🧐

Bugger, I’ve just contributed to the thread debilitation haven’t I. 😕

You're a very naughty boy but sounds like a good idea. I've asked for a cost so will advise when find out.

Back on topic, nice kitchen set up Ronny

How many of us Land Cruiser lovers have been known to carry spare CV Axles, vacuum lines, spare manual locking hubs, bolts in case one is lost from shock mount or leaf spring hanger mount, etc? I know I have....I lugged around 2 spare CV Axles that I removed when I replaced with new ones on my 100 series...in case busted one in field...hell carried zip ties and gorilla tape to seal torn cv boots. In my 60 series was mostly manual hubs, belts, length of vacuum line, and various bolts. LOL Everyone laughs until something that has been identified as weak point breaks...and you didnt have a spare or a plan to get home. LOL
After a bent front drive shaft on 100 series, busted ring gear, busted cv short axle........blown manual hubs on 60.....I dont fault anyone for bringing a spare part. Especially driving where he was driving....wow! LOL
Now as far as Ronnie's QM.....hope to trade or sell my Grenadier soon and get a QM of my own to replace her. Think I will stick to zero lift and 34" tires though....LOL

I was on the phone to Expedition HQ HQ yesterday, asked what the cost was - around $1200 for the front driveshaft. (or if they had any damaged ones i can slap a new joint on and carry as a spare)
they asked why i wanted one, i replied as it its been replaced before under warranty (eibach 30mm lift) im worried if it goes again i may not be so lucky and i need a spare for an upcoming trip.
response, waste of money you wont need it
I suspect the newer shafts have different rubber/compound as i have now heard this from two different sources

i suspect eventually there will be a campaign to inspect and replace any pre 24.5 shafts
i also suspect that the issue is blown out of proportion, yes there are failures but the % is quite low

still bought a jl/jt rzeppa joint as a spare...

I agree and suspect that front prop shafts are or will be changed on early vehicles as they come into the workshop for campaign work. However I don’t think that the issue is blown out of proportion. There’s going to many more failures than are reported on this forum. I know two people inc one person who contacted me this morning who are not on the forum , that a have a split rubber boot on the front CV joint. And as they’ve found out there are no prop shafts available as they are on back order. As my friend has just found out and @ECrider has found out also.
