So I left work for home today - and noted that after the car was off and standing for 7 hours+ that the engine was apparently up to 90degC operating temp within 500m of driving.. Oil was still showing low 40degC so obviously the coolant temp reading was false. I was still being notified of engine warming up...

I think i have noted this previously but not paid much attention - but most of the time it appears to warm up normally ie several km before it hits 90...

Anyone else seen this behaviour or have a reason for it (I know the td5's i have are electronic reading and normalises the temps but still doesnt go to this kind of "normalising")

It is similar for me, if the ambient temperature is warm, then it is not unusual for the coolant temperature gauge to be at the normal 90°, certainly in 0.5 mile, however the heater needs at least 4 mile to generate heat output. The engine temperature does take at least 5 miles to get up to normal temperature.

Well that’s annoying. Oil temp is what tells me the engine is finally up to temp.
To make matters worse, the earliest B58 petrol engines in the UK had that function, but when Ineos did their first UK update that display disappeared from the B58 petrol but was retained on the B57 diesel
