Diesel Rapid heating of engine according to Gauge

So I left work for home today - and noted that after the car was off and standing for 7 hours+ that the engine was apparently up to 90degC operating temp within 500m of driving.. Oil was still showing low 40degC so obviously the coolant temp reading was false. I was still being notified of engine warming up...

I think i have noted this previously but not paid much attention - but most of the time it appears to warm up normally ie several km before it hits 90...

Anyone else seen this behaviour or have a reason for it (I know the td5's i have are electronic reading and normalises the temps but still doesnt go to this kind of "normalising")
