Power steering noise

Hello everyone I was finally able to pick up my grenadier yesterday Unfortunately, I noticed at home that my power steering makes a strange noise. I think it's not a normal noise, or? The filling level in the container was at maximum with the engine warm but switched off. The German instructions do not say exactly in which condition the oil should be checked. Does anyone have an idea? I tried to post a video but I always see the file is too big (7mb)

I'm not complaining about pump noise much, but it is damn loud and noticeable. To the point I have to shut off the truck in some situations. One of those is going through a drive thru. No steering, just sitting there idling. It's been that way as best I can recall since I picked it up. Again, not a huge issue for me, but stupid regardless.

It has to be some poorly machined passage way or fittings. I would suggest maybe an undersized port or something, but that wouldn't explain why some report them to be quiet. So it has to be a QC issue.

I think you are closer to the root cause of the issue than many, there may be some greater variability in the way the hoses or fittings are installed (different angles, tigher radius bends?) on LHD versions that differs from RHD versions. There may also a usage or lifestyle variance in the US customer base that makes them far more aware of the noise, it could be something as trivial as driving more often with the windows down, your higher usage of things like drive through and drive in services, different expectations of noise levels from this type of vehicle (especially due to a lack of noisier diesel engines used in passenger vehicles), plus a generally greater concern for the opinions of others (like spouses and associates). Not making any kind of judgement here, just observing the reality of cultural and lifestyle differences.

All good points. I went to RDS last week for the software update and that was an easy 1 hour fix. As I was taking the keys from the service manager I asked him to listen to the power steering pump whine. We walked over to the vehicle, I started it up and literally touched the steering wheel. High pitched squeal immediately ensued. I said to him “that is kind of loud, don’t you think.’” His response was “no, it is very loud.” However, INEOS won’t replace it under warranty for the noise because it works, and it does. I think that is BS, but don’t have much recourse since everything else about my vehicle is good and I am keeping it. I am still interested in a legitimate fix if there is one, just like the 24.1 software update that worked for me.

My dealer in LA quoted me $3K for just the power steering pump. I am going to take up their offer to measure the decibels and if it's >90, I guess they'll request a warranty replacement? Don't know yet.

Is there anything the forum can do to get IA's eyeballs on this thread with 25,000+ views? I'm still a bit flabbergasted at the preponderance of evidence submitted by unhappy first owner customers only to be shown the door.

Serious bad taste in my mouth from the truck and the company because it's a few fair fixes from greatness.

90 db as measured inside your vehicle? That would be pretty loud. I recorded this today with my phone sitting in the engine bay, hood up. Full lock left to right several times. Noticeable, but barely audible above engine/fan noise.

Sounds the same as my pump, there if you go looking/listening for it but blends into the background if you are not.

3k? Is that related to the PSC modified pump for the JLU?

Here's the clip from my service rep:

"There is VIN break, so the part number changes from the earlier range vehicle to the later range vehicles. The part number for your vehicle would be the same as what is already in the vehicle. The cost of the pump itself is $3070.00."
