Hello everyone, I’ve just traded in my Defender for a Grenadier. Up until now, I was able to tow my Penman trailer with a NATO ring hitch without any issues using my Defender. However, I’m now concerned that the tow hitch or mounting point on the Grenadier might be positioned too low. On the Defender, it only worked with a height-adjustable setup as well. Does anyone use a NATO hitch on a Grenadier or have any experience with this situation? I’m worried that I might have to trade in the trailer too.

It is too low if you mount the pintle directly to the BSAU24 mount on the vehicle, you will need an adjustable mount but one that can raise the pintle to bumper level. There are two resulting potential problems. Firstly this is almost impossible using type-approved components (at least using them in a way for which they are type-approved), and secondly the pintle will obscure the number plate. If a trailer is attached then (in the UK and probably EC) this doesn’t matter, you only need a plate on the trailer, but you'd have to remove the pintle if you don't have a trailer coupled.

An alternative might be to modify the trailer so the lunette is below, rather than above, the drawbar, or to fit portal axles to raise the standard BSAU24 mount!

If we're lucky some solution will be developed for this problem since if INEOS is serious in its aspiration to bid for the TUM replacement this is a problem in need of a solution.
