Maxtrax Recovery Shovel

For that price, I'd hire someone to shovel for me.

Well it certainly isn't as 'Tactical' but I'm using a QuikGrip pair and a Home Depot shovel with pinch weld on the blade as a cover for around $50. Even worked out how to use a cheap'o cable lock to provide some deterrent so when I'm on a trip in 'expedition mode' with the shovel on so I feel o.k. going into gas stations and restaurants. I take the lock off when I'm on the trail. I did do a couple of wraps with gafers grip tape where the shovel hits the grip. Zero motion in a couple of thousands of bumpy trails and high speed highways. Prior to this setup I took a long shovel and short sharpshooter shovel loose in the boot. Biggest issue with that is when I used them the dirty shovels had to go back in the boot. And due to size I had to dig them out from under other items so I definitely recommend an exterior mounted quick accessible shovel. How much you want to pay for that feature - each to his own.

A word of caution for anything mounted to the side of a vehicle when going off-road. I’ve seen lots of damage. It’s not worth it. YMMV.

Hi Jeffrey, can I ask is that the recovery board mount on the platform.. looks like quick release, brand?
What you're seeing are the mounts for the Leitner ACS storage box. I hold the Maxxtrax down with a ratchet strap, though I now see a mount (shown to us here by Tom109) that I like better.
