Larger spare tire solution for QM?

Hello all,

We just picked up a set of larger tires (285/75 R17) for my wife’s Quartermaster. Has anyone come up with an elegant way to mount the spare besides just strapping it down in the bed? Her QM doesn’t have the load bars, so I’m curious what solutions others have used.

I believe there is a kit to relocate the spare at the back of the bed, against the wall of the cabin, but not sure it fits the extra size.

That's a 34 size correct? That is largest that will fit in the current location. Try it before buying anything. I run a 33 and it fits with some room to spare.

A popular solution is an in-bed spare tire mount from a company like J&L or BuiltRight. They bolt directly into the bed, keeping the tire secure and out of the way. Another option is an under-bed hitch mount from Rigd, which tucks it neatly underneath if it fits. Just strapping it down works, but these keep your bed space more usable.

No advice on spare mount unfortunately but that looks like Mt. Moran in the background. Was just there in late August at Colter Bay on Jackson Lake for our annual Teton Park trip. Fall is certainly the time to go the scenery is always amazing.

On trucks in the states they’re all mounted under the bed and drop down via a steel cable type thing.

Yup, we did a little side trip when we left Warner Ineos before making our way back to Vermont. It was amazing Area but didn't get opportunity to explore the area as we were trying to make back to the east cost to the Overland East Expo which we did make.

My Landcruisers had that and I hated it.

It is annoying. Some do not have a correct or incorrect way to turn the cable pulley. Once the spool is out you can keep turning the same way and the cable will be wined back up. Turning a scissor jack screw with a vehicle on it sucks less. lol
