I'm ready start spending some intimate time with the CAN bus...

There is a Swiss OBD2 port connector that seems to have a lot of features to reset error codes and read them, custom made for the Grenadier. Planning to buy one and see how far I can go with this: https://globeguard.ch/produkt/globeguard-basic-ineos/
Interesting option. It seems to do most things, if it had service reset it would be a purchase from me.

I saw some feedback from Black Sheep:

We took the device with us on our trip from Switzerland to Dubai and were able to test it extensively. Once everything is installed, it works flawlessly. Updates are released almost every two weeks, and with each update comes new features and functions. If you can convince your Ineos dealer to get the same device, they can even access your vehicle's electronics from the other side of the world and help you out of a jam. We are so convinced by the device that we will soon be offering it in our online shop.

Something like this please

I had a look but it doesn’t mention service reminder reset or TPMS setting. Maybe it does those things and will be interesting to find out more.

"Standard diagnostics ... WITHOUT POSSIBLE FUTURE EXTENSIONS."

I'll pass.
I think lost in translation and they mean not expandable

No, because basic devices are only available for one vehicle brand. Changing the licensed vehicle brand is possible for a fee.

Ah - makes more sense. I wish it provided more insight into what the device can actually do. The $50 OBD reader from Amazon can read and clear codes.

Edit - NVM I see the list.

They list them, I don't think I can do most of these things with a generic reader

Main functions

Reading/clearing fault codes from all control units in the vehicle
Text display analogous to original manufacturer texts
Diesel/petrol particulate filter regeneration (DPF/GPF)
Inspection and maintenance of the AdBlue system
EOBDII diagnostics analogous to vehicle manufacturer
Sensor calibration during replacement
Control of actuators
Pump
Motors/Drives
relay
valves
Locks Opening/Closing (Central Locking)
lighting

Display of parameters
Temperatures
Press
Fill quantities
Pollution level of the diesel particulate filter
AbBlue parameters
Sensor signals

Executing test routines, e.g., fault diagnosis, …
Fuel injector coding
Coding, calibrating sensors
Coding intelligent or complex components (teaching, etc.)
AbBlue maintenance functions (venting, filling, rinsing, testing, …)
Determination of the control unit identification information
Replacement functions (ECU replacement)
Part number

I found that after I posted.

I have be honest, I'm not sure what some of that actually means though.

Back when I still had my F150, I used "FORScan" which was an amazing setup that provided access to essentially every function possible on a Ford vehicle.

The electric steps run off the canbus. It sends the signal of when the doors are open to fold the steps down. There are 2 can bus ports near the drivers footwell up high. The black and grey wires are the bus the steps use.

A boy can dream. I recently picked up a used Audi Q7 with some minor issues that were mostly related to low voltage but presented in ways one might not expect. The battery had enough in it to start / drive but when it sat overnight the battery voltage dropped to 11.2-11.4 volts causing all kinds of miscommunication.

For not much money I picked up the obd dongle that offers to let you subscribe to as little or as much functionality as you might need. I opted for the "ultimate" package for a year. It paid for itself in minutes showing what was happening with the voltage, let me code around a pair of glitchy $5,300 each head lights which on some were covered under recall.

Next was the service interval, and service reminders both reset and adjusted down from the factory recommended settings. I took it down for new tires and an alignment and my serviced writer came out and told me the alignment required a $400 recalibration of the ADAS system. I didn't know with 100% certainty, but I was reasonably sure this new tool was going to make short work of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.

It did, as it did with all off the sounds and buzzers, auto start stop, rear hatch, and coding a new battery to the vehicle yesterday. The new battery did the trick and nearly all the faults are cleared. I've saved easily $2k in diagnostic costs and calibrations and have just scratched the surface of what the $100 tool can do.

Edit: For those that have inquired the dongle I used was called OBDeleven which specializes in Volkswagen group brands and I think Toyota.

It's blowing my mind every time I use it. I purchased mine on Amazon and got the ultimate package one year of everything for $330. I think mostly because if it turned out to be snake oil, I didn't want to have to send it back to some independent or back to Europe.

Speaking of minds being blown, I don't know if this is a function of a really lucky day on the line or coding the agm battery to the car but the battery I took out of the Audi is 10 years old, made in February of '16. 🤯

Dear Mirwan,

Thank you for your enquiry and interest in GlobeGuard INEOS!

Yes, you can reset the ‘airbag fault’.

We have already started work on the next version of INEOS SW, which will include the service reset. We will provide this as a free online update so that you are always up to date.

You may have already seen on our homepage what the difference is between Basic and Pro devices. Nevertheless, I will send you the following information on this subject:
GlobeGuard Basic - 650.00 CHF
-> ONLY for 1 brand (e.g. INEOS)
-> Cannot be extended to other vehicle brands; ONLY a change to another brand is possible (e.g. INEOS to FORD).

GlobeGuard Pro - 850.00 CHF
-> For 1 to n-vehicle brands (e.g. INEOS, Land Rover, FORD, ...)
-> Can be expanded to include any number of additional vehicle brands - various attractive license packages are available.

Do you have any questions or feedback? Feel free to contact me—we look forward to hearing from you!

Richard

That is indeed good news on the reset service. I wonder if they are working with support from IA on this?
