Idea - How about a Mobile Reset for the 2026 software bug?

I live several hours from my Ineos dealer.

Last fall I was asking someone at my dealer about mobile service. They explained how it was more complicated than it seems at first glance. I accept that as reasonable.

Fast forward to today where every Ineos on the road has the 2026 software service reminder bug. A bug that resurfaces every time they drive their vehicle.

This isn't doing the Ineos brand any favors.

If I was Ineos, I'd want to get rid of that reminder asap and put it in the history books.

There's no need to add to the long list of reasons to not recommend that others buy into the brand.

Given that there is no over-the-air software update available, and Ineos dealer strategy leaves many owners far from their closest service location, why not make it a little easier on owners to get this cleared up?

Why couldn't (doesn't) Ineos sponsor a mobile service where they travel to current owners and provide the software update? Or slightly less ideal, but still helpful, provide pop up locations closer to areas where their customers live?

I live in a fairly rural place, and know of a half dozen Ineos nearby. We all need to drive 3-5 hours one way plus take time away from work and family to travel to an Ineos dealer. Why should we all individually pay this penalty to get Ineos to fix their self inflicted wound?

This is exactly a situation where Ineos’ cost cutting represents a clear foot gun situation. They clearly opted against including any capability for OTA software updates due to costs (they’d have to contract with cellular companies across the world for update delivery for one ). Self service update capabilities were probably also deemed too complex (ie expensive) to build to be reliable, secure and fault tolerant enough to expose to the public as well.

And now we are stuck with a silly bug and some of us are hundreds of miles from the closest dealers in the future case that Ineos ever fixes their software. It’s just silly and a totally unnecessary situation we find ourselves in.

The foil hat conspiracy theorists among us will say things like ‘im glad there are no OTA capabilities because thats how they (‘they’ is bias dependent ofc) spy on us/now ineos cant pull a stellantis and push ads/1 less ecu! (like thats really a significant thing)’.

As a software engineer who has worked for the biggest tech companies in the world: software is both hard/expensive to do well and represents a classic case of ‘good, cheap, fast; choose two’. We have enough evidence by now to say Ineos didnt choose ‘good’ lol. One way to compensate for going cheap/fast is ensuring you have a way to fix and deploy inevitable bugs as they appear without undue customer friction. Neglecting to do so is an egregious mistake and no avoided conspiracy theories are particularly comforting to me. This pretty close to a worst case scenario, they delivered cars with a very visible bug that affects basically every customer, and they have no way to deploy a fix besides requiring dealership visits which 1) fucking sucks for customers in terms of real costs, opportunity costs (loss of vehicle for X hours), and time costs and 2) will absolutely be billed to Ineos as warranty labor costs by the dealers. Extrapolate that across the world across most/all grenadiers sold.

This is a case where decisions made to minimize costs/go the cheap route end up being really expensive.

The ISP updates can be done via USB stick. So any updates to the software for the unit should be able to be done that way as well. Just an idea.
USB may only work for head unit entry updates… and 24.1 versions. Post 24.1 uses encryption that requires laptop. Still doable via laptop if software similar to fordscan, obd11, bimmercode, was available

I don't believe ineos wants to officially ask tens of thousands of non computer literate people to hook up to the ecu, and be responsible for the mayhem of bricked cars that ensues. everyone is dealer bound at some point.
