Here’s an odd ‘issue’: Reflection in rear window…

Does anyone notice that at night, in a dark environment that the infotainment screen gets reflected back you- so when you look in the review mirror, you see a reflection in the rear window. The freaky thing is that the screen image is ‘right’ in that your seeing the reflection in the rear window in the review mirror, so it double reversed. I think it is so evident in the IG because the rear window is perfectly flat and perpendicular to the ground. So the image is right there. Freaks me out when I’m driving at night. I wonder if it is mainly a seat and driving position that makes it so apparent to me. It is like a heads-up display, but rear looking….

Already have some tape over the air bag warning lights. Those are way to bright for driving in the country at night.

Already have some tape over the air bag warning lights. Those are way to bright for driving in the country at night.

Not an odd issue, the same occurs in so many other commercial vehicles and machinery with large lcd screens at night working in unlit areas. I

In certain remote parts of Australia, your headlights or those of other cars many kilometers away can cause similar issues.

When traveling along the remote Barkley Highway in the Northern Territory late one night I thought someone was tailgating me, so I pulled over. Nothing passed me, it was actually a car’s headlights from many kilometers away. It looked like they were about 10 metres behind me tailgating. It was a single light, but as the car got closer, I could see two lights – it was quite strange the first time I experienced it.

The other is seeing headlights coming towards you but no car ever passes you. It is your spotlights hitting multiple street signs in the distance. Again it happened in a remote location with very dark skies.

Years ago, my (then) next door neighbour was a "faux" painter... i.e. he built and painted scenes for film sets. He was a major contributor to the sets used on the Wolf Creek movie. He embarked on a long interstate road trip with his 10 yr old son to attend the movie premiere intending to take the long way home to Queensland via Wolf Creek. He hadn't seen the final cut prior to the premiere. He told me with a straight face that it spooked him to the extent they stuck to the bitumen and stayed in motels on their return journey

Yes, but - If you let you back window get dusty enough, and don't clean it, the reflection goes away....Or put a molle panel up as you can't see thru the window anyway.

We visited Wolfe Creek crater in 2004. Movie came out in 05. Was a bit surreal. Luckily no break downs that trip.
We’ve since visited a few others on our travels, Gosse Bluff and Boxhole being probably the most well known.

I noticed the reflection as well pre-Wolfbox. The Wolfbox does indeed fix the reflection issue and the airbag light at the same time. The airbag light is mostly blocked by the plugs that go into the Wolfbox mirror, to the point I don’t notice it anymore.

The oncoming headlamps reflecting in the rear door glass is a well known phenomenon to drivers of classic Defender and Series LR drivers, same with a lot of commercial vans and vehicles.

Stayed at Wolfe Creek crater in 2018. Bunch of German backpackers in a dodgy XTrail with petrol cans strapped to the roof in the camp next door nearly lit up the dry spinifex with their bon fire while on the piss watching the Wolfe Creek movie at full volume.

My old Defender used to do similar. It would show the headlights of oncoming cars in the mirror. The headlights hit the rear glass and then reflect back to the mirror.
