That won’t be happening. I need portability for field trips when I fly to remote sites and work out of client vehicles. Plus loaning it to family for their trips.

You can add the 12v shop to the your list though. They have become my local go to shop for 12v bits n bobs.

Cheers

Nice and I liked some of his comments particularly about sat phones in the video,

But portability for me also includes the mount so their mount doesn't fit my use case. I can fit the terminal (in a neoprene sleeve), mount, cables and charger into a small conference satchel with a total weight of only 4kg. This can be thrown into my check-in or as taken as carry-on. At the other end I can set it up on a client vehicle and be connected in a couple of minutes.

Also remember I'm a minimalist when it comes to kitting out vehicles. Weight is one enemy of reliability. It will take me an extra hour to 2 to pack and unpack for trips away, but after over 40 years I'm used to that.

Fuel Transfer Pump

A bit of recycling from the garage junk pile.
I’m finding that lifting jerry cans and juggling spouts into the filler is becoming awkward so had already started looking at 12v pumps.
While cleaning out the garage the other month I came across an old 12v shower I made up many years ago when I had a caravan. It had a small submersible/inline pump (Rule il280p) that could fit into square 20l poly drum and plugged into a cigarette lighter socket.
Looking at the pump instruction manual I found it was also rated for pumping diesel fuel so I modified it to act as a fuel transfer pump. If the fuel container has a 58mm cap the pump will drop straight in, but for a standard metal jerry can the opening is too small. To work around this the white shroud at the bottom can be unclipped to expose a hose barb and I can fit a short length of hose so it can be used with metal jerry cans. I also put an old juggler fitting on the inlet hose end to help with priming the pump.

I also found that a 20mm PCV pipe joiner was exactly the right diameter to open the damm fuel flap. I glued 2 joiners onto a small length of pipe to make a sleeve that filler hose can pass through. When the hose is inserted in the filler I can pull back the sleeve.

The pump is powered from the 12v roof outlet and only takes a couple of minutes to drain a jerry can. When not in use I have it stored in an old plastic sheet bag with a towelling rag to wipe it down so it doesn’t stink the car out.

I used 19mm fuel hose for a siphon and that fits perfectly for the filler, I did consider a 12v sub pump after siphoning 80lts out of 4 plastic cans....very messy. Great idea @Rok_Dr 💡
