Has anybody priced the new 26 steering box?

Adjusting caster changes the angle at which the differentials pinion sits. Setting caster to max causes the pinion to rotate and point downward. So every degree of caster equals a degree of pinion angle. This means the CV joint on the drive shaft must account for that change in angle. When the cv at the pinion changes so must the one at the transfer case. The change is proportional. So that puts the Transfer case joint even farther out of spec when the suspension is at full travel. The pinion or differential side naturally sits at less of an angle than the transfer case so adjustment doesn't really cause issues on that side.
Thank you for saving me the typing!

I had a 26 for a few thousand miles. It’s much more centered on the highway at 90mph and has an improved turning radius. On everyday suburban traffic windy roads, you don’t notice the change. All things being equal the 26 box is worth the change.

I was wondering if they increased the toe a bit too. Prior to getting the front axle replaced and then resetting it to ‘24 specification, I had it at 2.3* caster and a tad more toe, which felt similar to the 26.

At our local owners' club meeting several months ago, one attendee reported on his visit to the factory in Hambach and discussions with a senior engineer re. "the steering problem". The engineer told our fellow owner that the 2026 model is fitted with a revised variable ratio box. The original box is a fixed ratio of approx 17:1. The new box varies between approx 14:1 and 17:1, with the more direct/quicker ratio +/- half a turn from the straight ahead position... which no doubt manifests as more stable straight line performance.... that's what I heard at the meeting... take it for what it's worth😎
I was contemplating playing with the caster however in the light of discussions re. the cv boots, I opted for a Tough dog adjustable damper. Several thousand highway KMS later and the vehicle is stable at 100kmh with a much reduced tendency to wander....
