Grenadier X Letech announced

The 4200kg GVM upgrade is interesting.

In the UK that would require a different driving licence but also perhaps a tacho? I wonder how one would be registered here. Personal LGV? I also wonder what the implications on BIK would be. At present it’s horrendously expensive to run a 5 seat Grenadier as a company car through a Ltd company. šŸ¤”
Can you have an LGV as a company vehicle? If so, it might not attract BIK and could be a good loophole now they have shut the door on double cab pickups. Portal axle Grenadier as a company caršŸ¤”šŸ¤©

You need a category C driving licence. If you passed your test before 1997 you have that already. (Up to 7.5t)
Once you get over 70 years old it becomes a bit complicated.

A tacho is required if using it for business.

No idea about BIK, I doubt if it is a loophole though.

That’s what I was thinking. Actually, GVW upgrade without the cost of the portals!

Are these available for the US market? If so I would order two. Just looked at the Phoenix store. Nothing about the portals there.

There is the link for registering interest. Oddly I could not navigate to it properly but when I changed the "/gb/" to "/us/" in the web address it comes up.

I already got an email back from my dealer.

Carraro has portal axles. Would it be a better option to get OEM portal axles then a small third party cutting and shutting and potentially not being able to supply spare parts in the future.
That would make sense.
I suspect the reason would be that Carraro have minimum order quantities and high development costs.

I think this will add a certain amount of credibility to the US market. A Mercedes is still $200k more. They just need a luxury version for the US after they fix the dumb stuff we complain about.

What do you mean by ā€œrockingā€ ?
Hummer H1 has inboard mounted disc brakes near the diffs before the portal hubs so when the truck stopped the brakes would hold and the backlash in the portal gears would allow the vehicle to move back and forwards slightly. Will not occur with the Letech portals because the brakes are still at the wheels past the portals.

If you need to drive over logs, this could fit the bill 🫠

Wading depth is less than the standard Grenadier but the price difference from standard vehicle to modified makes the Grenadier to Grenadier with portal axles look to be a similar differential

Plus the turning radius was still smaller than a Grenadier's by a meter. Just sayin'.
