G’day from central Victoria, Australia

Greetings from Hanging Rock,

Just joined and have a deposit down on a Quartermaster, Trialmaster spec.

Will be adding an Off Road Animal too bar, Runva winch, big fuel tank and debating if I need a GVM upgrade using Dobinsons IMS.

Cheers,
Ross
Welcome abroad.

Does Dobinson have an INEOS GVM kit? I cannot find it.

A good place to start for new owners is here:

Thanks for the list of places to start.

The 4wd shop near my dealer in Ballarat checked with DWM on the spec, so here it is copied as per the quote:

Front - 2” - 50-100kg
50mm front coil sorings
IMS front shock absorbers

Rear - 2” - 150-300kg
50mm rear coils
IMS rear shock absorbers
Brake line spacer kit
Dobinsons panhard rod APR10 FRT
Adjustable Landcruiser 76/8/9 V8 99>21 940 centre to centre lower control arms

there’s also a line items called “administration fee and engineering recovery fee” which sounds and feels like some sort of gouge from the manufacturer, akin to a license fee to use the product; can you enlighten me as to what this is for?

Cheers,
Ross

I have the DWM upgrade listed under GVM upgrades, but the link does not mention Dobinson IMS.

Thanks I will link your post to the DMW link.

SUSPENSION - GVM UPGRADE AU
  1. Expedition HQ GVM upgrade to 3800kg (Pre and Post Registration, but check), QLD registered cars only. EDIT: NSW GVM upgrade not possible at present;
  2. JRace Industries GVM upgrade to 4,000kg (Pre-registration) including rear axle capacity increase (Townsville Qld). Email: info@jraceindustries.com.au
  3. MORE4X4 GVM upgrade to 4,000kg (Pre-registration) here;
  4. DMW GVM upgrade to 3,900kg (Post registration) here; and
  5. Three GVM upgrade options for the Grenadier and QM from DMW here. More information on the kit here.

The engineering recovery fee sounds like recovering the rather expensive cost of engineering the upgrade kit.

Ultimate Suspension told me it can be AUD250,000 to engineer a GVM upgrade for a new car, that probably also covers the various in field tests.

Yes, as I thought. I appreciate the RnD costs are high but the challenge for me is that we as consumers will never know when they get payback and in theory, (guided by a more compass) one would think that they should stop charging when they have sold the require number of units.

That said I get that they're not a charity and perhaps, they should simply build the fees into their product costs of production and therefore reflect this via distributor pricing at the retail level; it could be part of thier strategy to price themselves as "good value" then sting the customer afterwards once they've committed.

Ho hum...
