Fuel line failure- diesel

Hi All,
Quick update on current solution. I am non-metro/Rural so most of my local shops have limited SOH, and easy to special order items but I have to head on a ~2000km journey today. The best fix I could find in the time frame was a spiral wrap from Pirtek.
The guys there were super nice!!! Good old fashion service, they cut me a nice 1m length free of charge to help me out! Legends!
I have applied this to both the brake and fuel lines and tweaked the bracket a touch to increase clearance. The lines will still make contact on bumpy surfaces regardless, but now with the wraps in place I feel more confident to head off on this journey.

Thanks all for the feedback. I hope this helps other before it becomes a stranding issue for you. Photos as below showing the fabric initially installed with zip tie next to the replacement wrap. Then 2 images of it installed, the wide angle shot hopefully shows the location of the issue more clearly @TheDocAUS
IG fuel lines not rubbing
I just checked the IG, the fuel lines are close but not rubbing (and showing no sign of rubbing as I felt both fuel lines). They seem to be in a slightly different position on an IG verse Levi's QM photos.

I would be interested to hearing from other IG owners, if they are seeing the same thing on their IG diesels. One car is too small a sample to draw a general conclusion. I will also look again and double check. @globalgregors

Other leasson, use the right fix
Use the right tool for the job, the Pirtek hose seems to work really well, it sure beats the dodgy first attempt. Apprentice please take note.

I think I will go spiral wrap regardless. Cheap fast fix.

I have added this to the Resources links. Thanks to Levi and others for their input, including @euroflo for giving us the idea of using spiral wrap. Easy to buy, easy to cut and easy to fit and a cheap fix.

The fix looks like it is now done properly, but do give feedback after that 2,000km trip.

HOSES/FUEL LINES/PROTECTION: the fuel and brake lines may rub on diesel QM’s near the rear water/fuel separator. The solution is to use spiral wrap on both lines as discussed here (with pictures);

Here are the specs on that Pirtek hose. We just need to diameter size. EDIT: the outer diameter of my fuel hoses are 12mm, so Pirtek FRASG-016BL should work.

Nicely done!

I will update in a week or so when i get back on deck.!

... sadly, I was told that all the work carried out on my car was a Master Technician.... given they charge out at $280/hour you'd hope for more.
They do say that don't they. You may have caught them on a slow day.

The 24 month service and two recent rounds of warranty work were done at my agent by their 3rd year apprentice (better than a 2nd year) because he was the only one left in the workshop with any Ineos experience. He didn't have an IA login AND NO ONE ELSE DID EITHER so they couldn't update the completed service or campaign work so my service reminder is out even though the work was done. That apprentice has since left and the business has changed hands. Last time I checked in with them they were hoping to start a new guy with BMW experience who could be cross trained onto IA vehicles. I've left them alone for the past month to get their feet back under the desk under new ownership. There is still outstanding work on my vehicle from July and December 2024 service visits. I'm going in next month to do an audit with them to determine what is done and correctly recorded, what is done but not recorded, and what has not been done. Mostly campaign stuff like the positive battery post caps are not yet fitted and there is still one or two wire crush shields to be done 🤷🏻‍♂️

This low-balling of work has been my experience at many big brand franchised dealerships. It's part of the price to live in a modest regional city (pop 185k) where there is not too many skilled techs. They've either moved to the coast or the capital cities chasing lifestyle, or gone to the mines and work six months of the year on FIFO rosters.
