Hi, the following text can you read today in german press.

Can anyone translate this into english, I seem to be restricted to 32 words only, and not sure which of the 32 words would be best to translate - or in which order.

First customers can test the new Ineos Grenadier with information from Lisa Huth 07/26/2022 | 09:25 am

A few weeks before the start of production in the former Smart factory in Hambach, a prototype of the Ineos Grenadier off-road vehicle will be presented on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is being tested in the area near Steinbourg in Alsace.

Customers have been able to pre-order the Ineos Grenadier for months. Now a few are allowed to test the new vehicle off-road. Because it is not a city SUV, but an off-roader. Six cylinders, eight gears, just over ten liters per hundred kilometers. This is what the combustion variant of the Grenadier looks like.

According to the company, the model is based on the former Landrover Defender and is intended to appeal to its customer base. Initially, only combustion models will be built in the former Smart factory in Hambach near Saargemünd. However, there are already considerations for models with hydrogen technology or electric drive.

OVER 15,000 ORDERS

Production of the Grenadier is expected to begin in Hambach next month, originally planned for July. The drive comes from BMW. So far, 30,000 cars per year are planned. According to the manufacturer Ineos Automotive, there are already over 15,000 orders for the car.

Ineos acquired the Smart plant in Hambach, France, at the end of December 2020 and invested around 50 million euros there. The SR radio news also reported on this topic on July 26, 2022.

No word about "passenger" or "driver" role?

thanks for the translation emax. Encouraging to see that first customers will be able to try the vehicle today and that first customer cars likely in August if the report in the German press is accurate. Not sure how this translates into our UK October dates, but it sounds very encouraging

Dave,

INEOS publicly stated that they expect production will be around 15,000 units in the first year (I assume to July 2023), then rising to estimated 35,000 units per year by year 5 but with ability to increase to more than original estimates due to the factory capacity at Hambach.

I recall last year reading or hearing someone from INEOS saying that they need to sell around 25,000 a year to "turn a profit".

Given the fact that they've been able to book out the first 15,000 without people being able to test drive the car, being an unproven brand and offering only a wagon variant - 25,000 per year seems very achievable.

If they need to ramp up demand, simply getting the dual-cab out will more than double demand in Australia at least.

The only thing I can imagine derailing the project would be some sort of massive safety recall or lemon status. But then again, people still buy vehicles from JLR and Stellantis (Jeep, Dodge, etc) don't they ?

Once they start taking orders from the US you would think they could get another 10,000 easily
