Which diesel engine oil level indication is correct, the dipstick or the electronic indicator. My dipstick indicates the full level but the electronic in vehicle test says 500ml is needed.

The owners manual reads don't use the dipstick. My understanding ( can't remember who told me though) is the that in the Grenadier the B57 engine uses a different oil pan and therefore the dipstick doesn't give the correct reading. But is the electronic reading saying 500ml is needed for "on road" or just the "off road reading".

My dealer told me to only check the electronic reading and not manually check it. But also typically refill a bit less oil than the display tells you to.

In one of the very early Ineos PR videos following the progress of prototype (diesel) testing in the Australian outback, there was a camera shot of one of the engineers performing the daily pre-start check sitting astride the engine, large cover removed and checking the dipstick! Maybe it was a binary check..... i.e. oil or no oil😎

So basically if you are going to be driving "horizontally" it's OK. You only need 500ml if going Offroad. But initially I would add 300ml first and check again otherwise you might find an overfill warning. The electronic dipstick measures in 500ml increments
