Electronic Throttle Control

Someone else here suggested the Ultimate9 evcX X401 throttle controller and I installed one a couple of days ago, it definitely works with a wide range of adjustment. This is the step up from the model you listed (EVC401) which would work as well.

Still playing with the settings, this one works from the buttons or connects to a easy to use app via Bluetooth. Relatively easy to install, remove single bolt at base of throttle pedal, remove connector at rear of pedal assembly (would be difficult for the big fingered), insert new control unit and run cable to mini head unit.

I got my unit from 4X4 Mods Australia for a good price and they delivered quickly:

Here is a pic of the control unit, it is tiny (apologies for the dodgy pic)View attachment 7833442
Mate, I was wondering where you connected the USB cable to? Looks neat
With the connection on the left. Cheers.

The headunit plugs into the EVC controller harness, which is hidden away.

The USB cable is routed from the head unit, then tucked behind the trim and down to the actual controller which is stashed adjacent to the base of the "loud" pedal. I secured the head unit to the trim with a small rare earth magnet which in turn is attached with double-sided tape. The USB cable disappears inside the fuse flap below the steering wheel. I adjust the head unit only rarely. If I leave the vehicle for an extended time, I have the option to remove the head unit, hide the short length of usb cable behind the fuse flap and there's no immediate visual evidence of the device being fitted. The head unit is not required for the controller to operate or be adjusted. The latter is then achieved via the blue tooth phone app. Factory settings when in for service 😎. "Lock" if left in a questionable car park...

I added a link to this over at Resources for installing the controller and routing the cables.

That’s a great idea. I wondered if a magnet would have any effect on the control unit. I guess not?

I have mine installed the left of a LHD steering wheel, but used double sided tape. I need to make it easily removable.

I fitted the control unit similar to @DenisM. I removed it prior to the next service, just in case, and I haven't put it back since. I just use the phone app for the infrequent times I want to change settings. Next time I'm messing about behind the kick panel I'll probably remove the USB cable also.

For Australian viewers the Ultimate 9 evcX X401 Throttle Controller is back on sale at Autobarn, here. $349.00 $244.30.
Check for stock in your nearest store or get it delivered.

Sale ends 23 March so giddy up.

Was hunting around for one of these, looks like the deal is back on...grabbed one at $200 in Aus

Good price. You'll like it.
I have commented before that you can do everything from the phone app so there's no need to install and mount the control panel. I can't recall if it needs to be plugged in to do the initial setup.

I ordered some stick-on Magnets and steel plates to remount my controller. Magnet on the dash and plate on the EVX controller. Now I can remove it at will. I don’t always use the app.

I use the app exclusively. An Icon on the home screen takes me to it. I have the phone mounted near the steering wheel, so very convenient.

Ill probably do like most others...doubles sided tape for a while so I can mess about and then unplug and use phone app for the (hopefully) rare times I need to change

Yep, that's what I did too. Only mentioning it as a suggestion to not get too carried away with a mount or routing the USB cable. Once the novelty wears off you may also decide you don't need the controller.

I leave mine on Ultimate 4 most of the time.

OK I was confused how to find the bolt and install the throttle controller, so I read the thread and have written up a Dummy’s Guide. Thanks to about 6 different posters.

Ultimate 9 Throttle Controller (fitting to a RHD car)
1. Open the driver’s door.
2. Take the FOB remote inside your house away from the car.
3. Wait 10 minutes for the car to go to sleep, to minimize any fault codes.
4. Remove the bolt at the base of the accelerator assembly. The bolt is located under a small black plastic cover (see white arrow below).

5. Remove the black plastic cover with a pick or small screw driver.

EVC - 0002-1.jpg

6. Undo the bolt with a TX30 Torx bit.

7. Place the bolt and plastic cover in a safe place.
8. You can now move the whole accelerator assembly. Gently push the assembly towards the motor and upwards and it will disconnect from a metal bracket on the floor. TIP: take note of what you did, as you must put it back on in reverse. Clean up all the accumulated rubbish under the assembly.

9. You can now move the accelerator assembly around and get access to the wiring harness, without having a heart attack.
10. Install the throttle controller under the surrounding trim, route and secure your cables and tidy up.
11. Once the throttle controller is fitted, slide the the accelerator assembly back onto the metal bracket (see the white arrow in the picture just above). Line the bolt hole up with the one on the floor. Insert and tighten the TX30 bolt, then replace the black plastic cover over the bolt.
12. Job done, now follow the instructions on how to use the throttle controller.

TOOLS
Pick tool or small screw driver
TX Torx 30 bit
Small broom to cleanup the mess under the accelerator assembly
