has anyone installed an defa electrical heater?

how did you run the cables for the interior heater?

I did just the interior heater. I'm planning on doing the block heater in the summer, but DEFA doesn't make anything that fits our vehicle. I would have to drain coolant, and tap in somewhere in the bottom, and add a little recirculating pump.

The cabin heater has been fantastic, and i love the app. I mounted the heater under the passenger seat. I ran the wires on the passenger side, from the battery, to the heater, and the 120v plug at the front of the car next to passenger side fog light. There is a big grommet in passenger side foot well at the fire wall, that had plenty of space. I also spliced the cable to make it long enough to reach the front of the truck.

From my understanding a block heater is a bit of a challenge on these BMW (and other newer) engines.

With no traditional thermostat instead an ECU controlled multi-way valve getting water circulation is not easy.

This is the reply I got from DEFA USA
"The inline heater kits that we offer are for the cooling system, not the oil. They include a heater, pump and a power supply. The biggest issue is they need to be installed in a heater hose, so the inside diameter of the hose is crucial. The plumbing also must allow for coolant circulation when the engine is off. Some vehicles have electronic coolant valves that may close when the vehicle isn’t operating.

We have complete engine heater kits that work with 16mm and 18mm inside diameter hoses, and we have a couple of heaters that would fit other sized hoses available, but I don’t have a complete list offhand. This type of installation sometimes requires sourcing hardware such as clamps and hose connectors, as well as making brackets to support the components."

Here's where I mounted the front plug!
