I was doing routine inspection at 7k miles yesterday and noticed that both front and rear pinion seals at the differential seem to be weeping / sweating a little. No oil on the ground and discoloration around the seal is somewhat minor.

Is this normal?

I had the same with no visible drip and oil levels remained fine many thousands of km. seals have been replaced now though.

Makes sense. Not concerned. I’d like to get a free diff gear oil change front/rear out of a warrantee claim :)
Think my front diff has this weeping problem.

7200 miles in, 2023 model. 50/50 onroad offroad.

33" tyres, no lift.

Have ordered some TRIPLE QX EP 80W90 for the front diff as that's what the dealer (Harwoods Portsmouth) exchanged the factory fill for at it's first service last September. Will get under and remove the fill plug and hope it takes very little to top up!!!

Anyone have photos of the front diff fill (and presume a drain) plug(s)?

Can't get under mine properly today and the bash plate is making visible access difficult.

Presume I just fill the bugger up until spills out as per usual?

So after having the dealer replace the front differential pinion seals mine appears to be weeping again!

Ffs!

I was under the car today changing the engine oil and saw and smelt the difference fluid in the same lower spot.

Have ragged it clean and will check it frequently and speak to the dealer again.

Note I have fitted neutral raised breathers into the engine bay for both front and rear diffs. Rear one not had a problem. Second time weeping with the front. Once with OEM breather and now again after replacing it with 8mm pipe. Makes me think this is not a pressure problem.

No water crossings or deep puddles since dealer replaced it 3 weeks back.

You don't just fill the bugger up the oil has to be below the fill hole by an amount there is a too task dealer of procedure,

Tks. Have since seen the chat on that matter. What a pain, if only we had the workshop manual from the beginning......!

Have you guys written down part numbers for the seals? The invoices may have them.
Unfort I do not as all under warranty.
Dealer might be able to supply.

Picture of my front Diff below, cleaned off and checked the level and alls good until the dealer can replace the seal.

Thanks to @ECrider for what tool to purchase to remove the fill port. Will buy some appropriate oil from Opie Oils.

A footnote, this is the first real anomaly I have experiences since ownership except for the initial software update.

Ok global brains trust - this leaking pinion seal seems to be "a thing" here in Brisbane the stealer tells me Im abut 25 on the waiting list and there is no ETA from Ineos on when they can be expected. No warranty issue with replacement just no availability to effect the repair. -apparently

So are there any alternatives?? - Im struggling to believe there is not a cross over seal or some other application that uses the same seal . Seals like this are not expensive - Im more than happy to buy one for the dealer to put in --- I have some long trips coming and it would be good to get sorted.

Dealer is saying come over and we will check the levels and top up if needed which I appreciate - however, its over an hours drive there - wait - hour or so back - total PIA - for the cost of my time I can buy a lot of seals I suspect - if I can find one .............

So does anyone have a part number I can chase or a cross reference, even dimension might be handy as a starting point

Thanks Team Gren.

If you can get the seal in your hand theres probably a part number and manufacturer on it. Thats how I sourced an alternative wheel bearing. It was less than half the price of the IA one and made by the same company. Same thing in fact.

Yes - totally agree Tom,

I have asked the dealer for exactly that a few days ago - and if the wider community can keep an eye out as well we might all benefit sooner

I remember being told by my ex-dealer that the pinion seals were a different make up to standard diff seals on other trucks, like a sort of reverse/mirror image of what was usual. Don't hold me to that being correct as I didn't manage to get a hold of the old ones and check it out myself. Another thing is there is a specific tool that IA provide to the dealer to 'seat' the seal in correctly. Again not done this myself so not sure how necessary a specific tool is. Just mentioning it may not be as simple as getting 3rd party parts and knocking them in as you would others. Hopefully wrong on both counts as I'm now on my 4th front diff seal and could do with a simple solution!
