Also join a local 4WD club that offers training courses. Before or after you sign the papers.

Has it got the front & rear locking diffs? Depending on your off-road use, you may need them and can't be added after the build

Welcome from the Bay Area as well. Congradulations on a making a great choice in the Grenadier.

I admire your wanting to "learn off-roading" although my mind is reeling at the thought of learning on a Grenadier. Not for fear of damaging it, everything is fixable, but there is so much to know about offroad vehicle behavior I would want to learn on something more primative.

If you are dead set on learning on a Grenadier I would join a club suited to beginners and go at your own pace. Enjoy!
