Are you having problems?

Yes, only because I already have a windshield protection film installed. The 3M tape on the molding won’t adhere to the film even if I try and help it along with a little bit of heat. It’ll stick for a few minutes around the bottom curved corners of the windshield then it just pops up again. I’m using the same TintVent brand you mentioned above.

The protection film is a pre-cut template I installed so there is a narrow gap where the glass is still exposed a little at the bottom edge of the windshield. The only thing I can think to do is remove the protection film in a thin band around the rest of the windshield the width of the molding so it can stick directly to the exposed glass. Not thrilled about the idea of trying to trim it with a sharp blade and not scratch the glass or tear up the edge of the film.

I have the XPEL film. Hadn’t thought about having to replace it everytime I peel a layer…. haven’t looked at the margin I have.

Use this product on all my vehicles and so far saved me a fair few windshield replacements. It’s a DIY kit and is easy to install and perfectly clear. Last about 2 years or so if you look after it.

I’m looking at the Windshield Defense product. I’ll have to check if it has a perimeter gap.

I recommend the Windshield Skin film (12mil). I've experienced several significant rock strikes without any damage to the glass. I only needed to replace the glass last week after it was hit right on the lower edge. I installed the rubber before applying the protective layer this time.

Yup, I’m going to wait to put on the rubber strip until I replace the film next time. It’s on there perfectly and I don’t want to disturb it so I’ll just have to see how lucky and long I get with the edge of the glass exposed. I live in the land of ubiquitous Side Dump 18-Wheelers and permanent road construction so wish me luck.
