The Td5 has more in common with the Rover L-Series than any BMW engine, the Storm project predated the takeover. BMW's main contribution was not to cancel it after the takeover. Only the 5 cylinder varient survived to actual production. My favourite was the td5 which was a BMW engine so im trusting it will be a fun vehicle.
The Td 5 badge was used on the bmw 3.0 or was it a 2.5 i4 in SA in the transition period. Thats exactly where Im from early adopter and had one of the original flawed engine blocks that would just burst without warning opening a gap big enough to put your hand into. Mine had about 15k when it got its new motor. It was way better than the 2.2 puma ford in ever respect apart from fuel economy but i got good miles on it before the balance/ expansion tank cracked and it over heated. The Td5 has more in common with the Rover L-Series than any BMW engine, the Storm project predated the takeover. There was a BMW engine in some of the South African Defenders, again an inline 6, and these are really sort after now. (The previous editor of Land Rover Monthly magazine, Patrick Cruywagen, on Instagram as busheditor, had one, usually referred to as "The Green Mamba").
