THE KIMBERLEY PART 3

When I posted Part 1 and Part 2 of the Kimberley trip recently, I realised I had not processed most of the images from my 2-day aerial photoshoot.

Below is a satellite image of Derby, King Sound (that great big “harbour”) and on its northern edge a group of Islands known as the Buccaneer Archipelago. The Derby mud flats are obvious on the southern edge of King Sound, near the Derby township. Towards the top right is the Walcott Inlet, which leads into Charnley River and its gorge. A helicopter sure lets you get about.

Over at my Blog (The Doc's Excellent Adventure) I have posted three updates:

• Flying down the Charnley River Gorge;
• The Buccaneer Archipelago; and
• Derby mud flats.

A few images from each entry are below. No Photoshop tricks, just basic post processing to show off the natural beauty. This place looks this good. It was a nice day.

Did they require any form of a bracket? How are they mounted?

I just drilled a hole in the bottom of the radiator shroud. It's plastic but pretty sturdy once the vent is bolted up against it. Used the included brackets for the lamps.

It was not today, but on Friday and Saturday that I mounted the Spanish Almont4WD bigger protection skidplates for the engine and gearbox.

First the rear “square” one, where I had to drill (not “re-drill” as mentioned on the instruction) the X-shaped original protection plate. This was the hard part, not really the drilling, but putting the furnished M10x70 screw; I had really to push up the plate with my hydraulic jack to be able to place the bolt, but even that wasn’t easy at all: almost no space to put my hand underneath. They should make that screw at least 5 mm longer.

The installation of the front (rather triangular) plate was straightforward.

After doing that I went to one of my sons places where I used the Grenadier as a platform for cleaning his gutter, and part of the package of the Almont skidplate for protecting the roof from "more" scratches.

My rear compartment is coming along great.
Added @Bison-Gear attic rack and 1/3 window molle rack. I had their front runner chair holders, and from runner chairs from my previous GX build in the garage, and added those as well. Now I just need a reasonably priced low profile drawer system, and I will be happy.

It's a right bstard to fit that bolt. The fuel tank cover is also a git.

That bolt you struggled with would be easier if it was 20 mm longer. I gave up trying to fit that bolt so found a longer one from an old shock absorber and used that. I still have the Almont fuel tank guard in my garage as haven't got around to fitting it yet.

Anybody know if Almont has a US distributor? I don't really want to pay substantially more for shipping (680 Euros) or for any outstanding tariffs.

Got the windows tinted Xpel Ceramic 30% on all windows except windshield and safari. Did 70% on front and safari.

Wow, in Australia we are only allowed 30% max on windows and 0% on the windshield.

Each state in USA is different in terms of what you can do. State of Washington Tint darkness for Truck, RV and MPVs (multi-purpose passenger vehicles):

Windshield: UV screening clear film is allowed. And any light transmission film is allowed on the windshield’s top 6 inches.
Front Side windows: Must allow at least 24% light transmission.
Back Side windows: Any light transmission.
Rear Window: Any light transmission.
