What did you do with your Grenadier today?

No high level switch panel on mine.
So fitted some switches.

Reasonably pleased, the switches are a different type although have white symbols/writing as per OEM. (I didn't want the regular Carling switches you see everywhere)View attachment 7912036

I would like to find some brushed aluminium switch guards, most seem to be shiny.

I like that they have labels. I have the high level switch panel and wanted labels so I added these:

I'm not using all of the switches yet but the labels can be swapped in and out of the label holders so when I find uses for the other switches I'll just slip a new label in. I used label holders like these, they are self-stick:

I added handles to the center rotary knob, mine are shiny but they also come in aluminum finish. I sourced them here, they are available in multiple sizes and they do have small ones in aluminum finish: https://www.mouser.com/c/industrial...acks-rack-cabinet-accessories/?q=hammond 1427

And BTW the black center on the knob is a simple circle cut from matte self-stick vinyl, I made it on my Cricut vinyl cutter.

Another source, although too large for switches on the overhead panel - I found these at the local home center (Home Depot). They are brushed aluminum and I'm using them to protect the outlets in the cargo area (one outlet is factory, the other I added).

My Grenadier spent most of the day at Chandlers of Belton having the door handles/locks changed and the front diff seal changed, all under warranty.

I swear the new keys are heavier than the old keys, but of course, I surrendered the old keys this morning.

SEALED SNORKEL FITTED
GrenX finished work on Wally today. DIff breathers installed, rear airbags as well and most important a sealed snorkel.

Some induction noise is obvious now that the system is sealed. A lot less than the induction noise on the GrenX snorkel on Rohan's car (my loaner car and a different model). Still waiting on the sealed diesel airbox replacement, so the snorkel is currently plumbed into the OEM airbox. That will be a 15 minute job.

A sock/filter is coming for the snorkel, GrenX is working with Unifilter on that. It will be added between the current grille and the snorkel head. I will be getting one. You can see the 4 screws in the picture below.

The induction noise is there because the air is being drawn just from the snorkel opening, whereas the OEM snorkel allowed air to be sucked from a few locations, as it was not sealed.

I drive back home tomorrow morning. A long day on the road. I was going to buy fuel and remembered I had it in the rear fuel tanks. So one container went into the car.

@Adam-Oz should have an update coming, we left together on Monday and arrived back at GrenX within 60 seconds of each other today.

Having owned Jeeps for the past 20 years, I've been transitioning all of my overland gear from the Wranglers to the Grenadier - roof rack, roof top tent, kitchen (fridge/sink/stove), rooftop solar, etc. Wranglers have roll bars that you can hang various things from and I miss the roll bar storage - it's easy to hang MOLLE pouches and similar things on the roll bars and I made good use of that in the cargo area in the Wrangler. To create some of that space in the Grenadier, I made these overhead MOLLE panels.

They've got a PALS/MOLLE grid, a grid of holes for things like QuickFist clamps to hold various tools, and an L-Track along the bottom. They mount to factory threaded holes in the ceiling.

I'm making good use of the MOLLE capability:

Another thing I had in the Wrangler were what Overland Outfitters calls "Roll Bar Buddies". On the driver's side of my Wranglers I kept their "tactical" version:

And on the passenger side the pocket version:

OO has similar "Buddies" for the Grenadier. Not having a roll bar, one can mount on the overhead panel. I have a tactical one there in the Grenadier:

They also have a pocket version for that space, I'm not using that one but here's a photo to show what it looks like:

Interesting. I'll have to weigh them as I did not notice. I still have one of my keys as I did not need to return the spare. It will go on the Christmas tree with all of my other keys of vehicles past as decorations.

Not too bad. From raw metal to paint each one takes about 90 minutes, and that's manual drilling/bending. Would be very quick to take the CAD pattern and cut it on a flatbed laser but like most home workshops, I don't have a flatbed laser. For now I made the two in my Grenadier the old fashioned way and I may make a few more for friends.

The Camel Trophy was an off-road event which focused on getting through remote areas in 4x4s, quite extreme terrain for relatively standard vehicles.

Originally Jeeps were used, but then Land Rover took over joint sponsorship.

Killed off in the 90s due to the ban on tobacco advertising and the eco warriors complaint that it was damaging the habitats of rare newts or similar.

Ah. Thank you. I am familiar with the old camel races. I honestly thought it was based on the cigarette brand when i see the old race info. I didn’t know that was the inspiration. Thanks for letting me know. Not sure my construction sites may grenadier frequents qualifies for that badge of honor.

My car was left with GrenX today for some work. @Adam-Oz also dropped his car off for some work and we had a chat.

My "customer service car" for the next 3 days is Rohan's fully kitted out GrenX Grenadier.

It has 35 inch tyres and a lift but steers better than my Grenadier with KO2s and the OEM steering damperer. I suspect it has a great deal to do with the Bilstein damperer which it has fitted. It is a based on a Defender damperer with changes to make it fit a Grenadier. Apparently Bilstein are now working on a Grenadier version. The car now steers like a normal car, Bilstein seem to have overcome some of the Grenadier's steering qerks. A pleasure to drive.

It also has Nimbus Suspension, which may help. The car does not roll as much when cornering, even with the higher centre of gravity.

The 35 inch Yokohamas have a less aggressive tread pattern than the KO2's, which may also help.

I need to check with Rohan, but the car seems to have a smaller (not small) turning circle with more range from full left to full right lock, verse a standard Grenadier. The Bilstein damperer looks like it is sitting higher than the OEM damperer, but that maybe the lift. Again I need to ask GrenX.

UPDATE
It turns out the GrenX Grenadier has 34 inch tyres, not 35 inch as I stated earlier.

Rohan said yesterday the improved handling is a combination of three things, the Bilstein damperer, the Nimbus suspension and a wheel alignment. The damperer being the biggest factor. The steering was amazing. @Adam-Oz now has a similar setup, as of yesterday. I would be interested in hearing his feedback.

Finally got and installed the smoked plastic cover for the telltale cluster (after covering one annoying and unnecessary idiot light with black tape). This might not be ideal for everyone, but I'm quite happy with the result.

I wanted to ask on here if anyone did that! Good to see. They’re too bright. I’d also love to dim the screen. “0%” at night is too light for my preference. And can we all admit a dimmer would be much easier to change as needed?
