I would have thought that since they require an off the shelf 4x4 for non-battlefield duties, mostly driven by teenagers and the like that a base specification dual cab pickup would be the most cost effective.
G wagons, Land Cruisers, Grenadiers are at least double the price of a base Hilux or DMax.

The GM military products using the Chevy Colorado platform comes pretty close to a militarised version of a Hilux or DMax. Don't know if they're any cheaper than a LC, G wagon or Ineos. Soon as anything is painted olive drab or desert colours it's price rises exponentially.

I'd be astonished if the Army bought Grenadiers, for one thing BMW won't sell engines to any military.

Which is not true, since BMW delivers the F 850 GS and the R1200 RT to the german army.
