UHF Wiring

Hey guys!

Preface: I’m not great with electrical but am an ambitious DIY guy. I don’t want to burn down my Gren or cause issues for this project.

I have a Midland MXT575. It fits PERFECTLY behind the plastic panel in the footwell right where the Int2 switch is wired. I love the idea of having it wired into that outlet considering it’s in front of an ignition relay with the option to turn it on overhead. However, I’m concerned about the power requirements of this unit. It peaks at 10A and 13.8v. Midland says to run 10 gauge wires beyond 10 feet.

Wiring into this outlet — “go” or “no-go?” Otherwise I will resort to wiring directly to the battery or a fuse box.
Where did you run the antenna wire from that location, I'm wanting to mount my midland 575 in that location to have switched power, but want the antenna on the roof rack or roof grab handle somewhere.

How did you run the antenna wire to the roof. I'm planning on doing it this weekend and am not sure how easy it is to pop the vertical panel behind the drivers seat to run the wire up to the roof wiring grommet for the lights.
It’s easier if you route it starting from top, behind the side rails and through the grommet, the body consists of two layers you need to get through. Removing the vertical panel, you need to remove the one beneath it as well as the buttom side panels, although be carefull when you remove the rubber strip sealing as it may seperate from where it’s is glued. Also, remove the “patrition hook cover” as it will give you a little of an inside look of what’s behind the interior fittings.
