Afternoon guys
I have 2024 MY Station Wagon. This came without a towbar. A quick investigation behindcthecolastic plate on the rear revealed a trailer plug socket. A bit more investigation showed that this socket also has wiring loom connected to it.
So, I asked thec dealer here in Spain where I live for a quote to install the necessary.
His quote came back at around 1500 euros. I asked for breakdown of this and noted that in the list there were some parts on the list that were clearly already on the car, ie the socket to plug trailer in.
I pointed this out and this resulted in a heated discussion where the dealer told me that nothing will work unless we install the whole package.
I have since made a further investigation using simple circuit tester and found that there is power at one of the pins but that no other pins have power even when turning on indicators etc.
My thoughts are that the package is installed except for the actual towbar ball and angle adapter plate.
Any ideas on this ? I have absolutely no confidence in the dealer and am now looking at buying the adapter plate and tow ball after market.

One thought, the live pin is possibly the 12 pin, the permanent live, the others may need the laptop to programme it to set electrics to " tow bar installed " function. As to why fit the socket and not the rest is weird, unless it was fitted and been removed, but I would have thought in that case the electrics would be energised. Did the dealer you spoke to sell you the vehicle or even to the original owner? Perhaps he knows some history.

Hi Eric
Thanks for reply.
I bought car as new (900km) from the dealer, so new.
They are adamant it wants everything including my 1500 euros plus IVA.
I read elsewhere that some cars were produced with the tow pack but Ineos had no adaptation plates in stock to fit. Makes sense I guess.
Not sure if its pin 12. Is this significant?

Try testing the pins with something that draws power such as a bulb with wires attached. If you can plug in a trailer that would be better.

No not significant, pin 12 no I'm wrong it is pin 9 just checked a wiring diagram. Anyway one pin in a 13 pin socket, EU and UK is a permanent live, and therefore not dependent on vehicle programming/functions. If you are correct that they didn't have the adapter plate in stock, then presumably the electrics may need to programme to talk to the vehicle. But if correct it begs the next question, did the original purchase price include for tow bar accessories fitted? Or was there a reduction in purchase price? I bet not it would be we will fit it when we get it.

Appreciated. Its a bit frustrating that the dealer does not seem to have a clue as the next nearest is a 4 hour drive away. I will report back once I have tried a plug in experiment.
