Close :-). It's termed "bunker fuel" and is the heavy residue remaining after the more volatile hydrocarbons have been distilled off in the refinery. Full of nasty rubbish and more polluting than refined fuels, but it's cheap.... then again, out in the middle of the major oceans, governments don't seem to worry who's burning what....I had the opportunity to step on board the P&O containership, Arafura. It was powered from memory by a straight 8 diesel two stroke engine. It was started with a fine diesel fuel and once up and running it could be switched to virtually a crude oil. Nonsense or waffel, but I think I'm close to the money![]()
