So, knowing what you know, would you buy it again?

You should go check out the rear of a Grenadier…
I am constantly dealing with the size of the Gren cargo area. It’s not necessarily bad, I just seem to struggle with it, especially with a fridge! Part of this is the bulk of the seats, which is a positive for passengers but makes me want the commercial 2-seat version!

For the most part footprint means more than volume due to height. It's fascinating how its just like the G, in that I can't figure out how space utilization was so poor. I guess the same designers. I mean, I can put a platform in my fj60, and I can sleep on that. Not this. way too short. And I can fit a noticeable amount more in my LC 100. The load bay is wider and longer. I no longer have an OG defender to compare it to, but my recollection was a shit ton of utility space at the expense of passenger comfort.

That massive angled right side wheel well is less than ideal. It's like building a home onto a hillside. A swing and a miss.

"Heck, the older G-Wagons look awesome as a very similar spec vehicle for a cheaper price "
One of the things that's not a fair comparison with a used G-Wagon is the warranty (or lack thereof) v a new IG. Keeping that in mind, I hit the MBUSA site for certified pre-owned GWs and the cheapest there is $115k for a '21 G500 with about 45k miles. The CPO is a one year unlimited mileage MB warranty and you can buy a longer one. So while you can find GWs in the 60-70 thousand dollar range, you're probably on your own in that respect. I'm not saying that's a bad choice, but I imagine it's expensive to fix anything on a MB and that one year of warranty could be worths its weight since you'd have some time to identify any issues. Plus you'll most certainly need to lay out some cash for wheels and tires (that can do more than run over a flower box), bumpers, wiring for winch, lights and accessories, ladder, RAI, etc.

While I understand your point, I'm not sure they compete in the same space. Boxy, ladder frame, lockers, and overall generalish looks, yes. But the frames are different duties (think F250/350 v F150), solid front and rear axles (not any more as the GW is front IFS as of MY 2019), payload (~1700 to ~1100 depending on specs)... On the other hand, MB has more tech, much quieter NVH, nicer build tolerances, more/better developed software, and a much larger dealer network.

I'm not nitpicking or anything, just trying to give some perspective. Would I buy mine again...yes.
