I just replaced my factory steering damper for the Bilstein one via GrenX. Bilstein Shock Absorber STEERING DAMPER – BE5 A580IG Stabiliser Ineos Grenadier - is the shop descriptor.

The driving difference is immediately obvious. The steering wheel around corners is self centering now. No longer push and pull. I was expecting a bit of a difference but this is a massive difference. The other benefits are 1. No more pushing the steering against that initial high resistance when turning from lock to lock, it is now effortless. And 2. straight line highway driving seems to require less course corrections (although haven’t done a long drive yet so this last item is a little subjective).

I suggested to my agent that they consider offering it as a dealer fit customer option ( ie factory style at no fee, and self centering steering as a paid option ). He’s gonna talk to Ineos Australia about it.

Haven’t tried it out on the rough stuff yet but will post after next time I go out somewhere a bit rugged.

Any bets on how long it takes for someone to post that theirs steers perfect from the factory and Sir Jim and the amazing engineers from Magna designed it perfect the first time and you shouldn't mess with perfection. 😂

Report back after a rough track experience.
I've said before , there should be different damping for city vs offroad drivers.

That's where the FOX ATS comes in. Fully adjustable. That said, I'm 100% ok without a damper off-road. I'm very much used to manual steering with no damper that can whip around and take off your whole arm.

Yup I'm here with that thought as well. I first couldn't find the sweet spot with my Fox and even thought about going back to OEM. However after making adjustments and driving between on and off road I can say I'm 100% happy with it now.

The factory offering is a starting point. For decades people have bought new Porsches etc and ditched various parts to make them better or more handsome according to their tastes ( admittedly dubious at times!).
Each to his/her/they own!

I considered this for a long time before I replaced mine and I came to the conclusion that the original came from a Unimog or heavy truck parts bin at Magna. 🤣

I set mine midway at 12 and it was perfect for me, getting my Trialmaster 90% of the way centered leaving 10% driver effort to honor the "intention" of the original.
