Ok, so a little change from the usual way of things. This forum is for members to post questions to INEOS Automotive for answer by the relevant Dpt.

This forum will be monitored and replied to on a rolling basis, (we're still fine tuning this part so please have patience with that) the intention is to have an ongoing constructive dialogue with the manufacturer. The first tranche of questions will be posed to Lynn Calder for a podcast that we are going to record Friday, July 25'th. For this opening round we are going to take the question from each geographical prefix with the most thumbs up as well as a few other things that we would like to discuss. This will be live until the point of recording so it could get interesting.

Some of the early models had a transfer case replacement, discussed here. Is your VIN low enough?

My vin is 03041.
However, they did replace the transfer case earlier , but it was actually as noisy as the one that came out.
But it has got steadily worse.

Ok, ich werde es versuchen.
Mein Verteilergetriebe macht ein lautes Heulen. Es klingt genau wie das Heulen eines Differentials. Als mein Fahrzeug neu war, gab es ein leises Heulen, und das Verteilergetriebe wurde ausgetauscht.
Das Heulen des Verteilergetriebes wird immer lauter, insbesondere zwischen 80 und 110 km/h (50–70 mph). Es nimmt zu, und jeder, der über gesunden Menschenverstand verfügt oder jahrelang Schwingungsüberwachung und -analysen durchgeführt hat (ich), weiß, dass dies auf Verschleiß und Verschlimmerung hindeutet.
Nach vielen Beschwerden legte mein Ineos-Händler vor Ort „Akustikgeräte“ an, vermutlich Mikrofone oder Vibrationsüberwachung am Verteilergetriebe und den Differenzialen. Schockierenderweise sagte der Serviceleiter: „Das ist bei Grenadieren normal, wir werden also nichts dagegen unternehmen.“
1. Wenn es normal ist, dann gibt es ein VIEL größeres Problem als mich.
2. Für einen Grenadier ist das nicht „normal“. Ich weiß das, weil ich von den Leihfahrzeugen, die ich gefahren bin, darunter eines mit ähnlichem Kilometerstand (~25.000), keines so laut ist wie meines. Eines, ebenfalls ein älteres, machte leichte Geräusche. Die neuesten Modelle sind erwartungsgemäß leise.
3. Es ist nicht akzeptabel, dass ein neues, modernes Fahrzeug laute Heulgeräusche von sich gibt (außer bei mir!).

Ich bin ratlos, was ich tun soll. Ich kann keine langen Strecken fahren, wofür ich es gekauft habe. Ich würde verrückt werden. Daher liegen meine Urlaubspläne auf Eis. Ich muss mich also darum kümmern, bevor die Garantie abläuft.
A. Einen anderen Händler suchen? Der nächste ist 4000 km entfernt.
B. Zu einem unabhängigen Differential- und Getriebeunternehmen gehen und für Geld eine Analyse und einen Bericht erstellen lassen, wenn ein offensichtliches Problem vorliegt?
C. Eine Beschwerde bei der Verbraucherschutzbehörde einreichen?
D. Eine Beschwerde beim Kraftfahrzeug-Ombudsmann einreichen? (Derzeit bevorzugt)
E. Eine Sammelklage einreichen?
F. Eine Telefonnummer oder E-Mail-Adresse für die Kontaktaufnahme mit Ineos finden? Ich habe es versucht, konnte aber keine finden. Habe einen Fragebogen mit Einzelheiten und Kontaktinformationen eingereicht und um eine Lösung gebeten; nichts.
G. Neue Option; stellen Sie hier in diesem Forum etwas ein. Möglicherweise eine neue Lieblingsoption.

Dieses Problem hält mich übrigens davon ab, Geld für Upgrades wie Räder und Reifen, Gepäckträger, Halterungen, Batterien und Ladegeräte usw. auszugeben. Denn wozu sollte ich mir die Mühe machen, wenn ich es nicht benutze? Was ist, wenn sie es zurücknehmen und gegen ein anderes austauschen? So oder so dämpft es meine Begeisterung. Ich kann es nicht fahren, ohne traurig und verärgert über das Heulen zu sein (Alltagsauto), es sei denn, ich drehe die Musik laut auf.

Nur mal so ein Gedanke. Könnte die Schraube vom Notleerlauf nicht richtig eingestellt sein?

Ok, I’ll give this a go.
My transfer case has a loud whine. It sounds just like diff whine. When my vehicle was new there was a faint whine and they replaced the transfer case.
This replacement transfer case whine has been steadily getting louder and louder, especially between 80km/hr and 110km/hr (50-70mph). It’s trending up, and anyone who has basic common sense, or who has spent years doing vibration monitoring and analysis (me) knows that this means something is wearing out and getting worse.
After many complaints my local Ineos dealer “put ears on it”, presumably microphones or vibration monitoring, on the transfer case and diffs. Shockingly, the service manager said “this is normal for grenadiers so we aren’t going to do anything about it”.
1. If it’s normal, then there is a WAAAY bigger problem to deal with than me.
2. It isn’t “normal”, for a grenadier. I know this because of the loan vehicles I’ve driven, including one with similar km (~25,000) none of them is as loud as mine. One, also an early one, had slight noise. The newest models are quiet, as you’d expect.
3. It isn’t acceptable that a new, modern vehicle has a loud whining noise (apart from me!).

My quandary is what to do. I can’t drive long distances, which is the purpose for which I bought it. I would go insane. Therefore my plans for those holidays are on hold. I must therefore deal with it before the warranty expires. Do Im
A. Find another dealer? Nearest other is 4000 km away.
B. Go to an independent diff & gearbox company and get an analysis and report done, for $ when there’s an obvious problem?
C. Lodge a complaint with consumer affairs?
D. Lodge a complaint with the motor vehicle ombudsman? (Currently favoring)
E. Start a class action?
F. Find a phone number or email address and communicate with Ineos? Tried and couldn’t find. Lodged a questionnaire with specifics and contact information requesting resolution; nothing.
G. New option; put something here on this forum. Potentially a new favourite option.

Incidentally, this issue is preventing me spending money on upgrades like wheels and tyres, racks, holders, batteries and charging etc etc because why bother if I won’t use it and what if they take it back and swap for another one? Either way, it’s put a damper on my enthusiasm. I can’t drive it without getting sad and upset about the whine (daily driver) unless I put the music up loud.

I’ve had the exact same issue, though I’ve constantly tried to tell myself that it’s “all in my head.”
