Had mine for about a year, only 5000 miles on it. I’ve spent over 100 hours on planes so far this year, so I had a trip to KC planned, and I just couldn’t go the the airport (DEN SUCKS) and spend more time on a plane, so I decided to drive it. Really outside my standard 300 mile range to drive, but everything is more than 300 from Denver.

So this is 600 miles, about 8 hours wheel time. Went out on Sunday and returned on Tuesday. Both times leaving around 11am and getting in around 8pm. So a fair amount of driving, 1200 miles in three days- though pretty easy and most of it at 85mph.

On the way out, the steering was a bit of an issue, but on the way back I realized that the wind was the real issue. I don’t think anyone would be surprised that something with the sail area of the IG would get pushed around- especially when operating around semis.

My previous vehicle was a Escalade, and I’ve done 600 mile trips in it, and I have to say that I didn’t find the IG to be that much different. The tall seating position is comfortable and the IG just rolls. Didn’t really get tired or stressed. Maybe a slightly bigger fuel tank would be nice, but my bladder is smaller than the tank. Plus the real issue is that there are parts of Kansas that don’t have a lot of fueling options, so you have to plan ahead.

Of course the valets in KC were intrigued. The nearest dealers are Chicago, Dallas, and Denver, so they probably don’t see them often. Drove some work people around for dinners and they liked it.

I’m highly encouraged. I wasn’t sure how a long trip would go, but I have to say that you can put some highway miles on it and then climb some mountains. A great road trip and adventure vehicle.

On this trip I passed the 100th meridian
“ In the central Great Plains, it roughly marks the western boundary of the normal reach of moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, and the approximate boundary (although some areas do push the boundary slightly farther east) between the semi-arid climate to the west and the humid continental (north of about 37°N) and humid subtropical (south of about 37°N) climates to the east.”

Plus it is a Tragically Hip song…

But I’ve always wanted to do a trip following it and doing a photoessay (photography is my hobby) on the transition. My best buddy and my wife’s family had farms/ranches around the 100th. My wife’s family lost it in the Depression, my buddies family is loosing it to modern economics.

Nice. I did a similar trip over the weekend (1500 miles over 3 days) and had the same thoughts. I'd prefer a bigger fuel tank but overall it did great on the highway and some backcountry dirt roads.
